Your version of EtreCheck is slightly out-of-date, but that probably doesn't matter
Version 2.4.1 brings the following changes:
- Fixes Handoff status for new MacBook.
- Checks for modified /etc/sudoers file.
I do see that you had a Kernel Panic yesterday, so I would guess that's what you are referring to. Such things are never caused by malware, so this is the wrong topic to be discussion it. The only 3rd Party Kernel Extension listed is Trim Enabler, which can certainly cause such things, but doesn't seem to be loaded, so probably not the reason. The other major cause of Kernel Panics are hardware related. RAM (bad or loose) being the primary reason followed closely by USB issues with hubs, cables or devices. In any case, I suggest you start your own discussion and post the Kernel Panic report to get some idea of what's going on.
Second MadMacs0's suggest of a new thread just for your crashing issues.
I would post an updated EtreCheck (latest version).
<https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6174>
I would post several of the kernel panic reports
<http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2546>
The first thing I would consider is that your 3rd party RAM is causing problems. If you have the original RAM, you could consider putting it back in and see if the problem continues.
Or you could maybe run Rember
<http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/>
Set the repeat count to maximum, quit all other applications to give Rember maximum memory to test, then start it running and go to bed.
You also have a 3rd party SSD. I have nothing against 3rd party SSD's (I am using 2 of them in 2 of my Macs), however, it would be careless of me to not mention that if the SSD is failing, it could be delivering bad executable code when launching a program from disk. If you have a bootable external disk, you could try running from the external disk for long enough to see if using a different disk affects behavior (and I know the system will run slower, because it is not going to be an SSD, and it will be using a slower disk interface).
Anyway, please start a new thread, and if you want put a pointer to your new post as a reply to this thread, so you can get already interested eyes to move to your new thread.
The update came in when I started this thread but couldn't install it without logging out!
The new version instlled automatically on shutting down Etre....
The SSD is barely a month old, and know to be a very reliable unit, but how do you know I have a 3rd party RAM - what is the give away clue that tells you this? I'm just curious 🙂
I'll look at the links you suggest and talk to my local Mac shop (a private concern) aboiut these problems...
Thanks for your caring help.
cheers

The SSD is barely a month old, and know to be a very reliable unit,
Less likely to be the problem, but not impossible. And we are just looking for things that are different from a factory shipped Mac, as they can be weak points. I've had an SSD die in 5 months. It was a quality unit. The replacement (replaced no questions asked, and at no charge), is still working very well. Things can die, which is why manufactures provide warranties.
Another reason I think the SSD is less likely, is that they tend to have catastrophic failures, not a lost bit here and a lost bit there. They are generally all in when they are good, and are all out when they fail.
but how do you know I have a 3rd party RAM - what is the give away clue that tells you this? I'm just curious

4 GB DDR2 SDRAM 800 MHz ok
Apple builds Macs with matched pairs of RAM to get faster interleaved memory access. Mismatched sizes "Screams" 3rd party RAM installed.
RAM on the other hand, is notorious for dropping a bit here or there resulting in slow and silent file corruption, and if you are lucky, it will change a memory address and cause the operating system to panic before it has corrupted your data.
Hmm - that's got me thinking !
But I can certainly understand the matched pairs bit... Maybe I should have invested in an entirely new mac instead of the quite expensive SSD 🙂
Thanks for the info Bob, I'll see now what that means expense wise, and continue to shuffle along...
cheers,
GeTe
