Mac Pro with x1900xt Screen keeps flashing to black???

hi there my mac pro does the same i posted a thread but no help just learn to live with it till i find out what to do it flashes and i have two atis on it and two 30 dell monitors and two 24 dells

Has your problem remained solved i.e. using dual link vs single link?

Yes problem resolved for the Mac side with the dual-link cable (when in OSX), I get occassional flashing in WinXP boot (on both my 30" and Dell 21").

I have a Dell 2007FP plugged into the output 1 of the ATI card and a Dell 2001FP plugged into slot 2. The 2001FP stays black for a long time after the 2007FP wakes up.

I tried replacing my Dell DVI cables with dual link DVI-D cables, but I'm still seeing the same problem. Has anyone else found a solution?

With this program you can change the refresh rate of your monitors to resolve capabatibility issues. My monitor runs at 75hz on vga and 60 with the dvi. I tried reducing to 59.2 but still had intermittant black screens. So I upped the refresh rate to 75 and so far so good. looks better too.

I have this issue with a brand new Mac Pro and an Acer 22" monitor. I have the stock 7300GT and nothing extra installed or hooked up. The issue doesn't appear with a 23" Cinema Disaplay.

A VGA cable eliminates the problem between the Acer 22" and the Mac Pro, but doesn't look as good as the digital connection via DVI.
I once learned from the author of DisplayConfigX that my old Sceptre 17" apparently sent the wrong "sense codes". It wasn't a problem on Windows because Windows is somewhat oblivious to the sense codes and relies more on drivers. OS X on the other hand expects the information to be accurate. I wonder if this is what we are running into here?

I might also add, that the same Acer 22" through DVI works perfectly with a Power Mac G5 dual 2.5Ghz.

I get the occassional flash to black on my 24" Flat Panel Eizo monitor also.

Call Apple care and complain. They'll say it's the monitor. But, if enough people complain just maybe they'll do something about it. Keep posting to this site so it stays high on the list of problems. Viewsonic took my monitor in for waranty repair. They said if they can't figure it out I could exchange for a tv or something I can use. At least they stand by Mac compatable!!!! I bought an Apple display and it's flawless.

I have developed this problem recently on my Mac Pro with two Dell 2407s. The screen goes black on each then comes back to life. The Dell's report no input when they go black.

As I also run Windows XP under BootCamp on the mac Pro I was able to confirm this WAS NOT happening under Windows XP so was able to rule out hardware as the cause.

I didn't find an answer to the problem online so called Apple Support.

They had me move the Desktop Folder in my Users\'username'\Library\Caches folder onto the Desktop and then do the same with the com.apple.desktop.plist preferences file from the users\'username'\Library\Preferences folder.
Then restart the computer.

So far it seems to have fixed the problem. They indicated the files moved to the desktop could be deleted as OSX generates new preference files when restarted if it can't find the originals in the correct place.
