Ipod shows wall charger on screen

havent used my Ipod for about month and a half, so i go to use it and batterys dead. plug it into the computer, and the battery with the ! in the triangle appeared. i said ok, let it charge. left it on the computer for about an hour, took it off went to turn it on, and a picture came on of a wall charger being plugged into the wall. now i have the wall charger, but lost the charging cord for it, and its a firewire cord not the USB plug in.

what should I do, the guy at radioshack said it should charge the same on the computer as in the wall outlet. Is my battery messed up or do I need to do something else to it. Thanks

Ipod, Windows XP

Hi,

Which generation of your iPod, in case it is 3G i.e. dock connection - please note

iPod (dock connector) will not charge over USB 2.0. Charging this unit requires a built-in 6-pin FireWire port or the FireWire iPod Power Adapter

If it is 3G, then you need to buy an Apple iPod Wall charger and plug your iPod with it to complete the restore process

i'm not sure what generation it is. I know its white, a 20gb, clickwheel, non color screen. the charger i have seperate has a firewire plug in, cable from the plug in, to the connector that would plug into the Ipod. My firewire part is missing so I cant use the wall charger, and before when I plugged it into the computer, the screen used to come up saying Charging. So i knew it would charge from the computer. now it has the wall outlet picture.

i didnt wanna buy a new wall charger, because the cheapest i have found is $30, and im just missing the firewire cable for it.
