I'm wondering if there is ANY way for me to obtain a @mac.com email address?? I know that Apple quit issuing them when @me.com and @icloud.com were introduced. Seems like there must have been tons of them issued at one time and since Apple still allows you to use the @mac.com extension I wondered if there was a place to trade/purchase them from existing owners......
Apple stopped issuing mac.com email addresses quite some time ago. You can use an existing one, but you cannot get a new one. An an existing address couldn't be used separately but only tied to an iCloud account, and I very much doubt anyone would sell you their iCloud account.
Sorry, but you'll probably just have to live without a mac.com address.

I understand that Apple is not issuing the domain anymore. I personally know several people who have multiple @mac.com email addresses. I merely want to purchase an existing .mac address for my personal use that isn't currently being used. I'll wager that there are literally thousands of inactive .mac accounts sitting on Apple's servers just waiting for someone to phone home and begin using them.
You would lose your wager. Again, you cannot use a mac.com email address separately now. Any existing mac.com address works only as an alias to an iCloud account. So someone would need to turn over their entire iCloud account to you, and I very much doubt anyone will be willing to do that.

And in any case you are not allowed to sell an iCloud account under the Terms and Conditions so even if someone was willing, Apple would not allow the account to be registered in your name. You can't have an @mac.com address but if you purchase your own domain from of the many providers you can have a personalized email address with, for example, your own name or some version of it (if it's a common name it will have been taken but you could think up a variant).
Of course you won't be able to use it as the 'From' address in iCloud but there will often be a mail service associated with the domain.
