iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer

I upgraded to v7 and waited excitedly while it updated songs for gaps and artwork. Once it was done, I chose my "Purchased" playlist and went to browse by Cover Art to see the fanciness and I got this error:

"iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer."

in white over grey, where the cover art browser should be. No additional information.

I'm running Windows XP on a P4 2.66ghz with 1.28gb RAM. All recent updates installed, to my knowledge. I have 64mb of shared video memory.

Any clue as to why I can't browse? 😟

m2jb: Your graphics card may not allow 32bit at the resolution you are running at. Try reducing the resolution to something like 1024 x 768, however I'm guessing your graphics card may not have enough memory to run the Cover Flow view anyway.

Windoze2Mac posted the PC minimum requirements above - I'm assuming you have a PC and not a Mac.

One more important thing to check: DirectX isn't just installed, but actually activated.

I had DirectX 9.0c installed on my computer but didn't have DirectDraw, Direct3D, etc. enabled.

Start -> Run -> dxdiag
Switch to the Display tab
Click Enable for all three acceleration options.

ok, i had the same trouble as everyone, all drivers updated, newest quicktime version, and graphics accel. on highest setting. i noticed while checking out the graphics settings that for some reason my "color quality" was set to 16bit. i changed this to 32 bit and tried it again..viola!! it worked and really looks great, cool gimmick for sure. so try this before you give up and buy a new card or somthing silly like that, hope this helps someone

Wow. I checked my graphics properties (right-click on desktop) for my Dell 1705, switched display settings from 32 to 16. After it was 16, it worked. I switched it back to 32 and it still works.

I agree with most of you, I am surprised the fixes have not been forthcoming.

What a hassle; it's like taking a new bike out of the box and trying to ride only to find extremely bent spokes and no seat. Far cry from the purported ease and high-quality experience of iLife.
