iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer

I upgraded to v7 and waited excitedly while it updated songs for gaps and artwork. Once it was done, I chose my "Purchased" playlist and went to browse by Cover Art to see the fanciness and I got this error:

"iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer."

in white over grey, where the cover art browser should be. No additional information.

I'm running Windows XP on a P4 2.66ghz with 1.28gb RAM. All recent updates installed, to my knowledge. I have 64mb of shared video memory.

Any clue as to why I can't browse? 😟

Installing 7.0.1.8 allows me to run iTunes instead of it crashing but when I use the cover flow view choice, with my P4 2.8/1Gb XP Pro SP2, Matrox G550 it is just junk displayed both text and graphics. This still needs work but at least the release appears usable now. Haven't connected either of my iPods yet (nano and shuffle) so let's hope that is ok too.

It seems there is another place where 3D can be disabled. here's what fixed it for me (Win 2003 srvr - all latest stuff):

1. Need all latest Drivers, DirectX and 3D Accel enabled (see posts above)

2. Need Color-Depth set the 32-bit

3. From Start Menu, click RUN then type "dxdiag" (no quotes)

4. click the "Display" tab.

5. Make sure "DirectDraw Acceleration", "Direct3D Acceleration" and "AGP Texture Acceleration" are ENABLED

I did this and Cover Flow works beautifully.

As a developer, would be nice if Apple caught this more gracefully and provided some kind of informational user feedback.

It would be greatly professional if Aplle would either at least dsable the cover flow button on computers where cover flow don't work or build in another "light", non 3D version of cover flow for the rest of our machines.
Once again, the new iTunes ist in a pre-beta state to anybody who, like me, works at a software company. Many have old computers and an iPod. My niece has a 2nd gen iMac that's running fine with her iPod. iTunes should serve everybody equally that has, or had until now, an iTunes/iPod compatible machine.

Cover Flow still not working for me and I have updated to the 7.0.1.8 version. I have also checked and tried the methods that have helped others on this topic but unfortunately for me, it still displays "itunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer" I will keep checking everyones experience to see if I anyone has any other ideas or god forbid, apple say something lol.

dxdiag was the key for me - thanks! I've never heard of that.

I don't know why, but DirectDraw and Direct3D Acceleration were both off. (The Hardware acceleration slider on the display properties was already set to Full.) I clicked that "Enable" button, and now Cover Flow works.

My card (Intel 82865G) doesn't have AGP Texture Acceleration, apparently. But Cover Flow works fine.

This is on Windows 2003 Server.

This stupid error message is obviously not a third-order issue!

I HAVE THE SOLUTION

i once had this problem too, its ur graphics card (have u had trouble getting certain video games to work)
when i say that its ur video card i dont mean that u need to update it or replace it, just do this

Start> Run> Type "dxdiag" (no quotes> More Help> Trouble shoot

from that do what ever one has to do with graphics (doesnt nessecarly apply to itunes)
