S/H Imac. wiping clean.

Hi Complete noobie to Apple. and a bit of a Silver Surfer. Have bought my sons imac and formated/erased hard drive. Came to reinstall OSX by download and it will not allow me to as I have a different Apple ID to my son. So tried to use original DVD Grey one, Snow Leopard. it installs but when I reboot it gets to Loading bar then turns computer off. Any Ideas?

My Son had dual boot windows/OSX on it when I bought it. Just wanted to start from scratch and learn but seem to have buggered it up.

OK, thanks for the reply, insert the orignal SL Install Disc into the SuperDrive and restart the computer. Here is an article that explains how to start from the SL Disc, once you have then do an erase and install including the Windows partition. Your Son really shoud have done all this prior to selling it to you so you had a fresh computer. If you still hve trouble take the machien to an Apple Store or AASP and they can assist, I doubt the cost would be much at all.

Hi Many thanks again. Was there supposed to be a link in your last post to article? I have used original SL disk a couple of times which has led to the problem above. It loads ok, says it has been installed ok but it fails when I reboot at the loading bar. The only difference is that i did delete the windows partition as I do not want windows on the machine.
