No trackpad or keyboard on Windows installer

Hi, yet another problem again with bootcamp.

When I boot the installer from my memory stick I get to the language selection and my trackpad an also keyboard are unresponsive. I've tried many different suggestions such as going through them all one by one, making a new administator account and also ticking the first 2 option then the 2nd and finally the third while quitting between the steps.

Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks.

Instead of messing around with the AutoUnattend.xml there is simpler method that works for me. I suggest trying it on your machine.

User uploaded file

I created two new directories in the $WinPEDriver$ directory. This directory is referenced within the XML file, and indicates to Windows what drivers are loaded prior to executing the Windows Setup. I also copied the corresponding .exe files as shown. I left the originals in the Bootcamp directory intact, such that after the Windows installation completes, I can still execute the Bootcamp driver setup.exe without any other errors. If Windows setup does not recognize the USB, I forced it by power-cycling and choosing the USB drive using the ALT/Option key to boot from.

The corresponding autorun.inf files contain the following lines, one for each driver. Once these files are in place Windows setup works and I have both Trackpad and Keyboard functional. The Secondary click does not work at this stage, but is not needed. It will work when the Bootcamp setup is run and the Trackpad shows up in Bootcamp preferences.

Please let me know how it works on your machine.

Can you post the output of sudo fdisk /dev/rdisk? where "?" is the disk your are trying to install Bootcamp on. Typically it should be '0', but you can also run diskutil list.

I want to test the unattended file and see how it works on my test machine.

This is what I have on my machine which already has Bootcamp. The fourth partition is where Windows should go.

sudo fdisk /dev/rdisk0

Password:

Disk: /dev/rdisk0 geometry: 121643/255/63 [1954210120 sectors]

Signature: 0xAA55

Starting Ending

#: id cyl hd sec - cyl hd sec [ start - size]

------------------------------------------------------------------------

1: EE 1023 254 63 - 1023 254 63 [ 1 - 409639] <Unknown ID>

2: AF 1023 254 63 - 1023 254 63 [ 409640 - 1452530904] HFS+

3: AB 1023 254 63 - 1023 254 63 [1452940544 - 1269536] Darwin Boot

*4: 07 1023 254 63 - 1023 254 63 [1454211072 - 499998720] HPFS/QNX/AUX

Your issue is related to the drivers not being correctly loaded, despite being requested.

not taking away from all that loner is doing to help you, but you're spending way too much time on this, your issue like I wrote before is get a new usb2 only drive and DL a new ISO, your problem will be fixed, a new flash drive is $10, and the new ISO (gave you the link earlier) is free

but, I would totally clean install OSX again before moving forward, I can't tell what all changes you've tried to date

turbostar, I have the same problem and tried your method: I bought a new USB 2.0 Stick and downloaded the new ISO. However the problem remains the same... I'm stuck on the first screen of the windows installation process.

boot camp does not give an option to delete the partition, it's only possible to create a new one (from the already reduced Macintosh HD).

Disk utility shows the windows partition as "free space". I tried to create a partition on this free space with disk utility, but that also does not work.

Any idea what I could do?

The link has the explanation of how it works and the steps necessary. It is an involved process, but if you want to try it, it may help you get Windows on your MAC.

Another option, that may be worth exploring is using Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033 rather than 5.1 and see if it works better in your case.

You can also look at this article Keyboard/trackpad inoperative, black screen, or alert messages when installing Windows 7

The Autorun.inf was created using Unix Vi. You may want to check for typos. Does your Windows Installer start and show you the setup screen? I used this to install Windows 7 Professional.

BCA partitioning does not create Free Space. It creates a FAT partition, which the Windows Installer formats. You either have a bad MBR or used DU to create/manipulate the partition. The Installer will ask about creating partitions only if the EFI boot is used (because it needs an MSR/MSD configuration, not a FAT32 partition).

Please see https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/ for further details of the various steps involved.

It's because you did not install the drivers from the BootCamp Assistant. You can't directly boot from the installer disk also. You need to use BootCamp for this. Follow these steps:

1. Open Application/Ultilities/BootCamp Assistant.

2. Check the 'Create Bootable USB installation'. You might also check the 'Download the latest support software'.

3. Once done, quit Bootcamp.

4. Reopen Bootcamp, and only check the 'Install Windows 7 or later version'

5. You will ask how much you want to partition. After partition, your computer should restart. It will be directly go to the Windows installation by itself.

6. Install

Your mouse & keyboard should be working 😉

I had searched everywhere on how to install Windows 7 without Bootcamp. But nothing works... You still need to install through bootcamp. Maybe it only works with old version of Macs.

No typo's at all, and if I just edited one of the existing autorun files would that work? Also yeah, I get tto the first selection screen of the installer (language selction). I've also noticed the resolution is off and the windows appear much larger along with no trackpad or keyboard. I've also tried the methods from that article with no help... I also ordered another USB which I should get tomorrow so I will get back to you on how that works as well.

As long as there is a unique autorun.inf per driver, in the correct directory, as shown in the screen shot I have posted earlier, it should work.

The Windows installer has probably a default 800x600 resolution, so it looks a bit strange on the MBP screen. Did you try using the left side USB?

Can you post your AutoUnattend.xml file? It may be worth looking at it to ensure the W7 Pro and what you have are similar. Another option is to try installing W7 Pro (you should be able to download the ISO from Microsoft).
