Using Swiss sim card

I plan to go to Switzerland and purchase a Swisscom sim card for my iPhone 5. When I insert the new sim card, will all of the apps, data, contacts, emails, etc. still be in the iPhone? I've not done this before and want to know what exactly happens when I insert the new Swiss sim card. Any advice or tips on use will be appreciated. Thanks

The only thing that may not work as expected right away is iMessage. Apps, data, etc, are unaffected.

Is your iPhone unlocked? If not, you will need to contact your carrier and find out what you need to do to get the phone unlocked for use with another carrier.
