web hosting?
will iCloud drive have any way to hook a personal domain name to the storage and be usable for personal web hosting? That was worth the $100/year charge for .Mac and mobile me... Even without iWeb (which I also really miss!)

This may be of help to you: Life After MobileMe.
Do you really trust Apple to host your site?
Look what happened to the thousands of MobileMe user sites.
We received 6 months notice of the closure (or was it 3?) and then the sites were wiped of the face of the internet, paying customers had no ability to forward visitors to a new domain before or after closure… it was just inexcusable behaviour.
Apple made terrible web hosts, and they don't seem to have changed in their outlook.
Buy your own domain, host it on any server, you have full control & you can use whatever platform you like. You'd be better off with a Wordpress blog, a Squarespace site or any other hosting/ site manager service.
It was actually a year, but I agree with you about the general principle. As a result of that closure I had to reupload and check over 700 pages to a new server, so I was far from pleased about it.
But in any case it's academic: there has been no suggestion that iCloud Drive will offer website hosting. Were it ever to do so I for one certainly wouldn't use it. There are lots of good, experienced, reliable hosting services out there, providing the full range of services such as PHP (which MobileMe didn't).
No, iCloud drive will probably not provide hosting, because if you think about it, there will be no need for it to do so, because Apple no longer sells or supports iWeb, so what would be the point in that?
Sign up for a hosting package with any of the experienced web hosting companies out there, of which there are many - HostExcellence, Godaddy, Siteground 1and1 and many more. Dedicated web hosts have a lot more to offer than Apple did.
Apologies about the timespan, I couldn't recollect if they told us about the sites going away when they began the iCloud beta. I have emails that warned 3 months in advance, but couldn't see any others.
No, icloud is used only to store contacts, calendars, photos, music, books and apps. Before MobileMe provided web hosting services for Mac users but it stopped its services.
There is no reason to search for a specific company for your website. If you compare the reviews of best reputed web hosting providers such as hostgator, godaddy, and bluehost you will see many Mac users are using them to host their sites. Especially Godaddy is very popular because of offering cheap monthly services including domain name registration, web hosting and email hosting. I don't know which software you have used to create for your website but I mention some useful links hopping they help you:

Why on earth are you bothering to reply to a post that is 5 months old and has effectively already been answered?
Well, because some folks (like me), were re-directed to this page and found their info very helpful. That's kinda one of the advantages of people answering older posts. I'm guessing I may not be the only one who found hovakhshatare2 posts helpful so give him/her a break. At least they are constructive!
Although I am replying several years after this post, I just wanted to say thanks to hovakhshatare2 for the information.
