1. FAT could refer to either FAT12, FAT16, or FAT32.

2. The earlier FAT versions can't be used on a drive which is 4GB or larger.

3. No. It uses a 32-bit FAT; the maximum file size is 4GB.

4. You should use FAT32 with Mac OS X 10.6.4 or earlier, exFAT if the drive will contain files which are 4GB or larger, or NTFS if you either don't need to write to the drive or are willing to install software which lets Mac OS X do so.

1. It is ExFat that has no redundant file table, which is why it is very difficult to recover data from (compared to FAT32)

2. No difference in speed.
