iMac 11,3 memory upgrade - 10600 or 8500?

I have a 27" 11,3 iMac with 4GB of RAM. I'd like to upgrade to at least 8GB. When I look on Apple's site, it states that the memory is PC3-10600 for my model. When I search a number of websites for modules, it comes up PC3-8500. Going into "About my Mac", I can't seem to find this specification for my existing modules.

1) Do I need 10600 or 8500?

2) I figure I can fill my bottom tow slots with 2GB modules giving me 8GB of RAM, but can I fill them with 4GB modules, which would give me 12GB?

Go to OWC and check what they say about your iMac, you can fit 32GB (4 X 8GB chips) but Macs are fussy, so buy it from OWC or, if you must, Crucial

OWC are the best by far, trust them

You can be sure to get the correct memory if you buy from reliable sources such as OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com as they will send the memory that is correct and tested for the model Mac you have.
