Absolutely ridiculous! I started my update at 8:00 a.m. with a 70% charged battery. After 4 hours and maybe 40% completion, I had to search online for a manual reset. I was getting so tired of looking at it and seeing it not go anywhere. It did update, but wow, that's a big problem. I could see people going back to their cell phone companies because they don't feel comfortable doing a hard reset, or don't know "how". Seriously. How did this get past the developers? I'm frustrated.

The iTunes logo and cable means it is in recovery mode. You can try doing a hard reset by holding the home button and power button for about 25 seconds until the apple comes up. If the iTunes logo comes back you will have to connect it to a computer with iTunes and you will get a prompt that says iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode and you must restore before it can be used. It will wipe EVERYTHING off of the phone but if you have an iCloud backup or an iTunes backup you can get everything back, if you don't have a backup its gone. And unfortunately if its in recovery mode there would be no way to back the phone up

It is not a good update if it requires a hard reset of the device. Apple must release a revised version. I had to do the hard reset by holding power+centerbutton for 10 seconds. I didn't know how to do a hard reset until I watch the below video. Wasted half of the day behind this update.

AmishCake,

I hope you're kidding. Apple actually does read their forums. How do I know? Because they actually respond to customers on occasion. I came here to offer a fix to others as I knew others were having this issue.

Not only that, but this has nothing to do with not having a backup. Guess what? I had a backup. Didn't need to use it, but had one. The issue at hand has NOTHING to do with a backup. The phone hard locks during an install of the operating system. That's a serious problem. If your computer did that, you wouldn't be saying that it wasn't an issue because you had a backup. No, you'd be wondering why the developer let a problem that large out to the masses. And, hopefully you'd do some research and see if others had that issue as well, not just shrug and leave your computer sitting there frozen and taking up space.

People on this thread were looking for a solution. But, understandably, we are also frustrated because it is APPLE'S product. Now, if we lost all of data in the process, we'd have no one to blame for the loss of data but ourselves. However, we would still blame Apple for causing the error that caused the data loss, right? That's like getting an infection in a surgical site because the surgeon didn't stitch you up. You wouldn't just be "ok" with it because infections sometimes happen, especially because the surgeon's failure to preform his duties properly directly increased the likelihood of infection. Yep, infections happen even when the surgeon does everything right. But, if the surgeon was at fault for causing the infection, you'd be like "Dude, come on? Really?!"

Stop acting like we are blaming Apple for something needless. This is so much bigger than that. I don't think you actually understand what people are saying here.
