Ahhhhh! Thank you so much! I was like, noooo my iPhone, its gone 😮
Thank God its not, such a relief!
It hasn't worked for me still the iTunes and the plug sign
Same here. I tried the hard reset, got nothing. I am sitting at the computer with my phone plugged in and trying the recovery through iTunes and still nothing. I guess I'll see if any progress is made after a while.
Update: Phone finally works, but I had to do the factory reset. Meaning I lost all my pictures of my family's July 4th celebration. Pretty frustrated with Apple right now.
Absolutely ridiculous! I started my update at 8:00 a.m. with a 70% charged battery. After 4 hours and maybe 40% completion, I had to search online for a manual reset. I was getting so tired of looking at it and seeing it not go anywhere. It did update, but wow, that's a big problem. I could see people going back to their cell phone companies because they don't feel comfortable doing a hard reset, or don't know "how". Seriously. How did this get past the developers? I'm frustrated.
The iTunes logo and cable means it is in recovery mode. You can try doing a hard reset by holding the home button and power button for about 25 seconds until the apple comes up. If the iTunes logo comes back you will have to connect it to a computer with iTunes and you will get a prompt that says iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode and you must restore before it can be used. It will wipe EVERYTHING off of the phone but if you have an iCloud backup or an iTunes backup you can get everything back, if you don't have a backup its gone. And unfortunately if its in recovery mode there would be no way to back the phone up
Anyone from Apple want to explain why you send out crap updates like this?
*** is wrong with you people? This has happened before multiple times. Try testing it out before you set it free to ruin peoples lives.
You're supposed to be doing regular backups, and especially before an update, ALWAYS back up. Don't be frustrated with Apple because YOU didn't back up your data.
It is not a good update if it requires a hard reset of the device. Apple must release a revised version. I had to do the hard reset by holding power+centerbutton for 10 seconds. I didn't know how to do a hard reset until I watch the below video. Wasted half of the day behind this update.

Regardless of the backing up this is a continuing issue with them and any that has dealt with before as I have I am tired of it. Test more before they release to the public. Too many times for it to be blown off as "should have done your backup".
You aren't speaking to Apple here, regardless. And everyone should be backing up regularly if they don't want to lose their data. If you had lost your phone or dropped it in a puddle, would you also be blaming Apple?
AmishCake,
I hope you're kidding. Apple actually does read their forums. How do I know? Because they actually respond to customers on occasion. I came here to offer a fix to others as I knew others were having this issue.
Not only that, but this has nothing to do with not having a backup. Guess what? I had a backup. Didn't need to use it, but had one. The issue at hand has NOTHING to do with a backup. The phone hard locks during an install of the operating system. That's a serious problem. If your computer did that, you wouldn't be saying that it wasn't an issue because you had a backup. No, you'd be wondering why the developer let a problem that large out to the masses. And, hopefully you'd do some research and see if others had that issue as well, not just shrug and leave your computer sitting there frozen and taking up space.
People on this thread were looking for a solution. But, understandably, we are also frustrated because it is APPLE'S product. Now, if we lost all of data in the process, we'd have no one to blame for the loss of data but ourselves. However, we would still blame Apple for causing the error that caused the data loss, right? That's like getting an infection in a surgical site because the surgeon didn't stitch you up. You wouldn't just be "ok" with it because infections sometimes happen, especially because the surgeon's failure to preform his duties properly directly increased the likelihood of infection. Yep, infections happen even when the surgeon does everything right. But, if the surgeon was at fault for causing the infection, you'd be like "Dude, come on? Really?!"
Stop acting like we are blaming Apple for something needless. This is so much bigger than that. I don't think you actually understand what people are saying here.
I think Apple team should be keeping a watch on the forum.
They do. They may not respond very often, but they have teams of people that it is their sole job to watch the forums to see what errors users are having. One of the first places people go when having a problem is online. If they see enough people having the same issue, they know to investigate it further.
I did the hard reset and it works just fine. Thank you guys so much. I started to seriously worry after about an hour. I appreciate you putting this out here for those of us who have similar issues!!
