Cannot access international websites

I am based in the UK but there are US websites that I need to access. My iPad and iPhone simply won't let me and reverts everything to the UK version of the website that I am trying to access. I have US accounts that now I simply cannot log into and have tried everything I can think of including changing the region format on my iPad to USA - nothing. I have also cleared my web data and cookies in Safari - nothing.

Since I no longer have access to a PC, I am literally stuck now by only owning an iPad and iPhone. I have to say, I really wish I hadn't bothered switching to Apple as there is always some lockdown or complication with one thing or another.

Would really appreciate some help.

Hi

Thanks for your reply and help.

I understand what you're saying, but Im not sure that this has nothing to do with Apple technology because on a PC you can access whichever website you please, regardless of country.

Yes I know there is usually a link within the website that allows you to either switch countries or jump to another variation of the site. I have not come across this because also a lot of websites revert to the mobile function only instead of the full desktop version, therefore you have even less options!!

One of the websites for example is Proactiv Plus skincare. I believe there has been a mistake made on my credit card from when I purchased some products 2 weeks ago whilst I was in the US. I need to get into the US site to check the prices is US$. I cannot do this no matter what I try, it always diverts to the UK site.

There are other sites also.

Thank you.

No, many sites do this even on a PC. However as I said there are usually links to change the Country or Region the Website automatically serves. However, on mobile versions of the sites these may be hidden or removed all together by the Website owner

Yes, this is a function of the website. They detect a mobile device and serve the mobile version which may be lacking in features. It would happen on any mobile device just the same. Whether Apple or Samsung or whatever other brand.

Unfortunately this is up the website again. What it serves up based on location and device used to access it.

You could however use a different browser that can change its identity to make the website think its a PC browser. and so you have access to the country selector.

Sleipnir browser for instance offers this feature.

There are several others in the store.

The version of website you get is completely unrelated to the iPad or iPhone.

Its up to each website to serve whatever version they think best suits you.

In most instances they automatically detect your location and serve the version of the site for that region.

Usually there is a link in the website itself that can let you change the region being used. But again this is entirely the websites realm and is in no way related to anything the iPhone or iPad does.

If you cannot access the website in the region you ant contact the website administrators and work it out with them.

If its not too personal can you give us an example of these websites you cannot access correctly?

It's up to the site to decide what content it delivers to you, and in many case it is decided upon locating the origin of the IP-address you're coming from.

If there's a possibility to switch location on the desktop site, but not on the mobile one, you can try using an alternate browser that allows to set the user agent to a desktop browser. This way, the website host thinks you're on a PC and delivers the desktop site with that feature. Opera is one that has such a setting, and it's free on the App Store.

Alternatively, you can use an US-based proxy server.
