Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

What Did they Do to This Forum?

I don't understand this new format!

Is this permanent?

Oh well, I guess I'll just Google my problem.

It is not my purpose or position to apologize or defend the current Apple Support Community forum system.

I was NOT expecting you to apologise for the mess that Apple has made of the forum.

I do encourage you to discard the an emotional evaluation and try and look at the problem from perspective concentrating on facts.

Hard to discard emotion when you spend so many hours in the forum, only to see it turned into a unusable mess.

Yes there has been a radical change and there are still many issues to be addressed and rectified.

The WHOLE forum needs to be rectified now.

This is clearly a gross overstatement and insistence on immediate corrections is naive and unrealistic.

Apple should have thought about / consulted ALL of the forum users as to what changes needed to be made, instead of going in guns blazing and ruin it.

But slowly things are improving.

Um, no they are not.

Had you been here the day the new system was implemented.

I WAS here when the new system was implemented.

You would now know there have been a number of changes, adjustments and improvements made.

There have been NO improvements made at all.

This forum is a MASSIVE step BACKWARDS.You can safely assume it will be several months before a status quo level will be achieved.

You can safely assume it will be several months before a status quo level will be achieved. I base this on my personal experience on system design and implementation.

That is if there is anyone still in this catastrophe of a forum when / if they fix it.

I have great confidence that more changes and improvements will be made. The manager of these forum has advised us so in the past and has delivered on all promises.

You must have a inside source to get your info, because I can't see it getting any better here.

Try to be patient.

I'm definitely NOT going to hold my breath waiting for this mess to be fixed.

You don't have to. No one here is required to participate on these forums. This is all voluntary.

I understand FULLY that participation in the forums is voluntary, that is what upsets me is that some people have put in tens of thousands of hours to have Apple spit in their faces.

I do sympathize with your criticism but I must say that you are not aware of what is involved.

So I am just some stupid hillbilly nobody, because I only have 215 points, while you have 25,530 points.

What ever the final product will become here, I know will not be perfect.

That's for sure.

Apple have NOT made one good decision since Steve Jobs died. { R.I.P. Steve }

And certainly will not please everyone but it will be functional.

I won't be holding my breath.

Why don't you come back in 6 months and see if there is any improvement.

Because the way Apple is making decisions now, there probably will be no more Apple as every one will have moved on to purchase from a company that doesn't make horrific decisions and alienate their customers.

Forum participants who have accumulated 8000+ points (level 6) have access to a separate forum that allow them to communicate with the Apple employees who administer these forums. In that respect I do have some 'inside' information to which you are not privy to.

I see nothing to be gained by refuting your counter arguments point by point but I will offer you a challenge that I will be interested in seeing if you will accept.

Write up three issues that you would like to see rectified in these forums.

  1. State clearly what the problem is as succinctly as possible.
  2. Provide documentation in the form of links and/or images if required.
  3. Give what you believe would be the best solution.

If they have merit, I certainly will post them in the aforesaid forum. If the issue has already been brought to the attention of the administrators. I will advise of same.

Essentially I am giving you the opportunity of being constructive in lieu of simply ranting and whining. You may accept this opportunity or continue on your aimless and pointless tack. The choice is yours.

Ciao.

Hello OG,

Whatever Luigi writes, would you add my problem to the list. I am very unhappy with the way the size of the screen has been adjusted to meet the needs of iPhones and ignores my needs as a 20" iMac 2007 user.

Why must I have to go to Safari menu > view > zoom out every time to get the screen I want. Is it really so difficult to make the necessary permanent adjustment for OS 10.6.8 users. Snow Leopard is still an important OS with something like 19% of Apple users at the last count … and it is my guess that most of those are mid 2007 to 2009 iMac users.

I have raised this several times in the lounge to be ignored. Perhaps you could do better.

Much obliged to you for your efforts.

Challenge accepted for TWO items.

Write up three issues that you would like to see rectified in these forums.

1. State clearly what the problem is as succinctly as possible.

1. The forum spam.

2. The trolls.

2. Provide documentation in the form of links and/or images if required.

1. I am NOT going to provide links to this as the link will be invalid when / if the host removes those threads.

1. I am NOT going to provide screenshots of this, as I don't believe in advertising the forum spam for the spammers.

2. I am NOT going to provide links to this as I am NOT giving the Trolls the privilege.

2. I am NOT going to provide screenshots of this, as I am NOT giving the Trolls the privilege of advertising what they have written.

3. Give what you believe would be the best solution.

1. Make it harder for people to create multiple Apple ID's in succession as the spammers are by making the system use multiple or ALL of the methods in this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum_spam#Spam_prevention.

2. A LARGE number of high ranking ( Level 7, 8, 9, & 10. ) members very early give a answer WITHOUT making some kind of snide remark.

Read this link for ideas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

Essentially I am giving you the opportunity of being constructive in lieu of simply ranting and whining.

A prime example of trolling right there, you could have just asked the above WITHOUT adding the insult.

There are over 9 million members of this community. Be sensible.

No, the revamped site works fine for me (spam aside) and I don't have to sign in more than once (unless I sign out of course). I preferred aspects of the old version but familiarity has a habit of doing that. 🙂

Lovely day today, I'm walking back from Newton's Observatory to my lunch venue of choice by the Heath. What shall I have, more decisions. 😁

I came across this thread unintentionally but can't resist a comment as it seems to be about a fundamental problem in using computing that has exasperated me over the years since I first used MS DOS on ghastly Alan Sugar Amstrad computers. I was utterly bemused by the fact that the person owning the small consultancy business thought using these idiot machines improved efficiency when I had not iced instantly that using those primitive machines simply made everything take ten times longer.

The basic reason for that was that our job was to sit at a desk and be 'consultants' and 'fixers' to senior executives running businesses

Then, when I bought my first Apple Classic, breathing a sigh of relief that at least they were usable, unlike MS DOS machines

(here's a problem right away with this silly new forum. There I was, happily typing away when the bloody thing just twitched & entered a new screen, stopping me dead in my tracks and doing the usual computer thing of being a bloody nuisance of a time waster. Apparently it posted my half written post without me instructing it to post. So I'll just go off & finish writing the post in a pages document on my desktop and copy & paste it here in a Mo.
