Apple TV & Pioneer Elite

I just purchased the Pioneer Elite VSX-43. DirecTV and my DVD player work perfectly using the HDMI cables into the Pioneer and then having one HDMI cable coming out of the Pioneer into the TV. When I hook up the Apple TV with HDMI into the Pioneer, nothing comes on the screen. However, when I hook up Apple TV directly to the TV it works perfectly (picture and sound). Any ideas what's going on?

The TV is a Phillips flat screen. I can't seem to find the model number anywhere (not the remote, the instructions or on the TV!!!!). It was purchased probably around 2007/2008.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

likely the pioneer's hdcp implementation don't live up to apples requirements

hdcp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdcp

can be implmentated in a wide range of more or less quality ways

it would be my suspision

if you search the forum you will find all the posts that make me jump to that conclusion as I've never experimented with it my self

I called Pioneer and they said that it's not a problem on their end (that pioneer allows hdcp)...I've updated my apple tv, so it has the most recent update. Again, when I hook up the Apple TV directly to my TV it works fine, but when I hook it up through the Pioneer it doesn't work. Any ideas, please? Please look at my original post for more information on the problem.

Try swapping HDMI cables around, you might have one with a dodgy connection that's causing the issue.

Alternatively do you know if your TV is full 1080p capable - when it's hooked up to the TV go to Settings and check what video resolution it's set to - if it's 720p for example and the Auto setting is selected manually choose 720p in case the Pioneer is telling AppleTV it can accept 1080p but the TV then can't handle that resolution.
