can i update my Snow leopard to Mountain Lion?

Is the most obvious update for my Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 the Mountain Lion Mac OS X version 10.7?

System requirements for OS X Mountain Lion

Mavericks:

OS X Mavericks: System Requirements

Lion and Snow Leopard:

System requirements for OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6

The more obvious question would be: "Which OS does my hardware support?" Find out what hardware you have and then consult the support articles listed here.
