Mainstage 3 / MOTU Ultralite Mk3 Hybrid driving me crazy

Hi,

I get constant dropouts when trying to use MainStage 3.0.4 with MOTU Ultralite Mk3 Hybrid interface. And everytime the dropouts happens I get these messages in the console. Sometimes over several hundreds of them when things are really bad.

AND...it gets worse whenever I go to a rehearsal or live onstage. Go figure that one out!

kernel[0]: IOAudioStream[0xffffff8052709000]::clipIfNecessary() - Error: attempting to clip to a position more than one buffer ahead of last clip position (1e2,158)->(1e5,428).

I do not get these errors when using internal audio only.

I get no help from MOTU who are saying that there's no problem with the hardware.

I have received a second MOTU Ultralite interface. Same problem.

I have tried both USB (with nothing on the bus except the interface) and Firewire (over Thunderbolt-adapter). Same problem.

What is happening?

Please help me!

Here's my computer specs:

Hi Raymondina. I did email my contact at MOTU a couple of weeks ago but haven't heard back. I will try again now and will report back when I have news. I really hope MOTU have the resources to deal with this - I know they are probably focussing on their new Thunderbolt interfaces, but let's hope they haven't forgotten about those of us who have been using their other interfaces for years...

Hi there, I just want to thank you all here for the generous feedback, as I had the same exact problem. Have a MacBook Pro laptop (4 years old) with Snow Leopard working with MainStage 2 loaded with a zillion plugins and a MOTU Ultralite interface , and I never had any issues, I gigged this setup constantly and not even had a glitch.

Preparing for the inevitable I through of creating a redundant "small" rig, with a mac-mini of similar features (memory processor) which brought me here, with a 10.9.5 OSX (Mavericks), 2.5GHz I5, 8Gb Ram machine. As most here, had to upgrade to the newer Logic and MainStage versions.

At first, the same issues that everyone has referred to here. The MOTU would work great for 5 minutes and then a random clipping sound out of nowhere. The clipping will not follow any particular action (patch change, midi message... ). The CPU would be at its normal 20% max usage.

2 days ago went to shop around for a RME, as I was sick and tired of this and had singled out the card as the source of problems. I tried a Gio Apogee interface I had and rune for hours with 0 issues,... and this is a USB unit. Before committing to change it all, I gave this another try.

Yesterday I installed the 1.6 64254 drivers, and updated everything in my mac to the latest. I worked yesterday all day long, and I saw this happen again once, which brought the frequency from once every 15 minutes to once every 10 hours of work. I overloaded MAinstage with all sorts of plugins and there was no problem. It seems the MOTU guys have done something here as these drives seem to do the trick. I will give this another week of work, and report back if things get better or I go RME as some here.

Regards,

I have to jump in here as well....

I've been using Ableton Live and Cubase on a MacBook Pro runing 10.6.8 and the MOTU UltraLite MK3 for over two years with very few issues.

Trying to move into Logic Pro 9 to teach a class; students have Logic Pro 9 on their laptops, and I like teaching with the Apple Pro Training Series books for Logic.

When I use the computer ins / outs ie no audio interface / just core audio there are no issues...

When I use the MOTU Ultralite as the interface, I get "spinning rainbows" after only a short while and have to restart. Have tried multiple reboots / resetting PRAM / and nothing works correctly... cannot trust the system for any gigs...

Glad I found this post...

Hi all,

Add me to the list. I'm running Mainstage 3, an Ultralite, on about a year old Macbook with Yosemite and I am getting the same dropouts. It's been driving me a little crazy and this is the first I've gone online looking for any answers so I was happy to find this thread.

I haven't gone searching for any MOTU updates in a while so I'll go and try that next.

Hi again.

Just a quick update. I am fully updated on firmware and drivers. After starting everything back up again, it took me all of about 8 seconds to get the first dropout. Again, this is Yosemite and Mainstage 3. Afterward my console contained several messages that said

mdworker: Metadata.framework [Error]: Boolean _MDPListBytesAddObject(MDMutablePListBytesRef, CFTypeReID (17) -- replaced with kCFNull

Followed by a single:

MainStage 3: Audio engine overloaded, resetting
