I didn't even reformat but I just started getting this annoying message too all of a sudden for now apparent reason. If I hook up to my 2k HDTV it goes away, but for some reason it suddenly started refusing to play any HD file on my 4k monitor (it worked fine the other week).
My graphics card control panel says (idiotic) HDCP protection is working fine over the connection.
And I can play back blu-rays with HDCP just fine even if I turn off AnyDVD HD. Every other content with HDCP other than iTunes HD content works just fine still to this monitor.
It's getting to be pretty darn annoying. Honestly there is ZERO point in studios even using HDCP anymore. Alll it does it protect the signal over the video cable, but seriously how many people own a full stream 1080p HDMI capture card and have the special types of drives fast enough and large enough to cap a movie that way? Hardly any so it does nothing at all to stop casual piracy. And the big pirating firms had HDCP stripper chips ages ago, plus they can just break AACS and such and copy movies way more easily that way. So what the heck on earth is HDCP accomplishing? It's a joke. THE only thing I see it accomplish is P.O. those who actually do pay for stuff. Those people I see complaining all over about it. Seriously the studios need to stop listening to the fool lawyers pushing some of this stuff that is just backfiring 100% and realize the only people it helps at all are the DRM specialists convincing them to pay for it's development and usage! Maybe AACS still stops some casual piracy, but HDCP never accomplished a single thing ever for the studio, other than perhaps P.O. customers and driving some to stop paying and to pirate instead, it's ridiculous.
My earlier message about this from a week ago:
OK, I've just about had enough of this DRM nonsense.
Everyone who pays has to run around for hours trying to find a way to play the stuff they paid for while those who don't pay just sit down and watch! Great way to do business. Great way to encourage people to actually pay for stuff! Well done!
When will the top studio heads realize it's just making us all LOSE more money than we gain!
My system is 100% HDCP compliant.
I can confirm in the Nvidia control panel that both my graphics card and display are compliant and currently running HDCP fine.
But all of a sudden, last night iTunes refuses to play any of my few iTunes movie downloads (of which thankfully there are few, Blu-ray is so much better and the protection is easy to get around so you can play them back properly as you wish, but for a few titles I grew tired of waiting for the studios to get around to releasing them in a proper HD format, Blu-ray, so I finally caved in and tried a few digital downloads and for the other case I got one as promo (along with the Blu-ray).)
I tried re-booting and re-installing iTunes a few times and once it played for about 10 seconds before quitting and putting up the fake HDCP error message.
I can play back Blu-ray stuff just fine even if I turn off AnyDVDHD. So between that and the control panel saying HDCP is running fine, it's obviously running fine.
So I don't know what extreme levels iTunes is suddenly decided to use to verify HDCP, since everything else runs HDCP protected content just fine.
It's pretty ridiculous how many other complains like this I see around too. Can this really be good for business??
And it's pretty ridiculous that iTunes won't even let me watch a movie that I am in. Heck, I even partly funded a movie for which I'm now getting blocked by iTunes, now how is that for the height of irony! RIDICULOUS! Apple get your act together! This isn't good for your bottom line or anyone connected to the industries bottom line nor to any of the millions of loyal paying customers.
