There is no magnifying glass icon or search field and no way to search other than scrolling through a zillion icons.
Please post a screenshot that shows what you mean. Be careful not to include any private information.

This looks like a intermittent problem. When I launched App Store, the usual icons appeared at the top, but there was nothing in the top right corner - no spotlight field. I was able to dig through the contents and make my purchase, after which I posted the above question. Around an hour later I relaunched App Store, but this time the spotlight field showed up.Perhaps I need to delete the prefs file.
Unless it happens again, I wouldn't do anything.
