KeyChain Access will not reveal my password for Skype.

I am trying to reveal my Skype password. I can no longer reset through Skpe since I no longer have access to that original email address.

It is stored in Keychain access but when I click show password in the attributes pop up box I am unable to click the box, "show password"

on other logins this works?

If that is the case then I don't understand the use of keychain access -> show password field. It was supposed to show the saved password.

Apart from Skype, do you see your passwords using your Administrative account with Show Password? If yes, then it works as designed.

Not asking me to reset my password. This looks like a bug to me. Hope they fix it. I don't want to reset my password as I have logged into multiple devices with this account. I don't want to go and change in each of these devices.

It is not recommended that you use Safari as a password 'keeper'. As mentioned, if the Skype password was initially set using admin password of 1234, and later the Administrative password was changed to 5678, you will need to enter 1234, which is not allowed. Please also see OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password - Apple Support . You will need to rebuild the Keychain if you have such an issue.

Loner T, your comments on Safari are irrelevant, Safari is not used here - the issue is Keychain Access (& apparently how Skype saves the 'token password').

AkhilCB, there is one more way to read the items in keychain, via the security command…

In /Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter this next line

security find-generic-password -s "skype" -a ".token.1" -w

Ensure the '.token.1' account string matches what you are searching for in Keychain Access.

A security window will pop up requesting access to the keychain item, allow it.

Then you may be prompted for the keychain password, enter that.

The password will be shown in the Terminal

Note: Mine does not show my Skype password, it shows a gibberish token, around 150 characters of hexadecimal (fff34fb…)

I think Skype is saving some form of data that is not viewable for this field that is why the token always fails to show. This is not your password, you will need to reset that via Skype, let us know if the other devices need to be reset too, the token may continue to work even after a reset.

P.S here is the manual

I do not use the App. If the App is doing something on it's own, then it is no longer a Keychain Access issue. I can see the same password in Safari and Keychain (Webform Password) for login.skype.com and I can decrypt it by providing my Administrative login password in both Safari and Keychain Access.

I realise that, the OP was talking about the two tokens…

Account Attribute .token.0

Account Attribute .token.1

AkhilCB said it was the same issue, can you please confirm the name of the item you are having trouble with AkhilCB?

The password is different to the tokens, I appreciate your input here Loner T, but I think you are missing what we are talking about because it is different for the tokens.

Thanks Drew. You are spot on with the issue mentioned. Account attributes are ".token.0" and ".token.1" for me. I am using Skype Mac application and not web URL. I will try to reset the password later. Thank you all for the help. Appreciate it.

I understand the tokens are not password, but authentication tickets, similar to Kerberos. They will never reveal passwords anyway.

AkhilCB

I have the same issue and none of the above solutions working for me.

This statement is incorrect.

KeyChain Access will not reveal my password for Skype.
