how to prevent voice memos being copied from computer to iPod Touch?

What I want to do seems very simple: transfer large voice memos from my iPod to my computer. I have written several posts for help to do this. However, people don't seem to understand the problem. Other posts I have read don't help either.

I understand about selecting "include voice memos" under "Sync Music." However, when I try to do that sync, iTunes wants to copy my entire library of voice memos on my computer back onto the iPod. There are far too many to fit on the iPod so it can't work. I don't want to do that anyway. (Does checking the voice memos make any difference? They are not checked.)

Surely there is a way to prevent voice memos from being copied back onto the iPod. However, given the lack of success in finding an answer, I am becoming overwhelmed with despair that there is no solution for such a simple problem.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

It appears to be working as Apple intended. The manual says:

Moving recordings to your computer

You can sync voice memos with the iTunes library on your computer, and listen to them on your

computer or sync them with another iPod touch or iPhone.

When you delete a synced voice memo from iTunes, it stays on the device where it was recorded,

but it’s deleted from any other iPod touch or iPhone you synced. If you delete a synced voice

memo on iPod touch, it’s copied back to iPod touch the next time you sync with iTunes, but you

can’t sync that copy back to iTunes a second time.

Sync voice memos with iTunes. Connect iPod touch to your computer. Then in iTunes, select

iPod touch. Select Music at the top of the screen, select Sync Music, select “Include voice memos,”

then click Apply.

Voice memos synced from iPod touch to your computer appear in the Music list and in the Voice

Memos playlist in iTunes. Voice memos synced from your computer appear in the Voice Memos

app on iPod touch (but not in the Music app).

What yo can do is code the Voice Memos on the computer as something besides Voice Memos (Right click>Select Get Info>go to Option tap and change under Media Kind). When yo change it it will move the VM to the library for that kind e.g., Music if you coded it as Music)

Thank you.

My iPod Touch 4 User Guide does not provide as much information as the manual you quote. It is helpful to finally see this explained in clear English.

Seems crazy that the only way to do this is to have to relabel the files. I don't understand why Apple couldn't just tell us the work-around for this problem. No more iPods for me.

Thanks again.
