This is exactly my point. Apple is no longer supporting Snow Leopard. This is the main issue for those of us who purchased an Intel MacBook in 2006. It is impossible for us to upgrade to the newer systems. Apple should provide us with security updates. Like GM, they dob't care. All they want is to force us to buy a new laptop; easily over a $1000.00! Not an option of many of us who are NOT in the 1% category!!
I understand your frustration but consider this:
1) There is no evidence that Apple has actually stopped supporting Snow Leopard. Actually there is evidence to the contrary: updates to FaceTime for Snow Leopard, etc.
2) We know that Apple has stopped updating Safari for Snow Leopard, but there are alternative browsers available.
3) You can always install Mavericks in Parallels in Snow Leopard and use Mavericks for sensitive internet/security work and Snow Leopard for all other work. A little pricey (about $80 for Parallels plus extra RAM if needed) but doable and a solution to your distinct problem (the original 2006 MacBook), for even the late 2006 MacBook can boot Lion.
