iPhone is disconnected?

Every time I go to back my iPhone up on my MAC it will go so far but the I will get a message saying that my iPhone could not be backed up due to being disconnected. Why am I getting this? The phone is plugged and and I looked, nothing is disconnected.

Try a different cable or different USB port

I've tried to use different ports, different cables, I've tried just running the back up off just WiFi, nothing. It's as though I can no longer back my phone up. Do I need to take this into a store to be looked at?
