Macbook Air vs. Epson Stylus CX6600 color printer options.

Recently purchased a Macbook Air (intended) to replace my 2005 Sony Vaio 13" PC. The MAC driver that was downloaded for the Epson Stylus CX6600 does not allow me to make any printer settings such as black & white instead of color. This is wasting ink. It also no longer allows me to print double-sided or to make any other printer setting adjustments.

Is this something that can be improved, or will I just have to continue using my old Sony PC for printing until the Epson dies? (It's still going strong, and so is the Sony Vaio.)

Apple's drivers support the Epson Stylus CX6600 as listed here:

OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download

I have a different Epson printer, and I know Apple's drivers do allow me to print double sided. To do that, for example, if printing from Safari, I would have to do File > Print and then change the "Safari" setting in the resulting display to "Output Settings" and then adjust the "Two Sided Print" drop-down that appears.

Similarly, File > Print > (change "Safari" to) Print Settings > Grayscale is available.

Perhaps you are using your Epson on a local ethernet network or wifi. One way around this is to connect your Epson directly to your MBA via USB and that should give you the older settings. Then select the settings you want and make them presets. Then when you go back to your network printing you can select the appropriate preset in the Print menu.
