Does anyone remember the Apple II Computer Desk?

My first Apple product in early 1981 was an Apple II+ with twin disk drives and a color monitor. My boss was so impressed with it that he bought me an official Apple Desk, complete with sidearm. It was such a nice piece I kept it all these years and recently gave it to my son for his iMac. Here is what it looks like today. Anyone remember this item? [It was expensive, on the order of $800 if memory serves me well!]

Very funny! For $800 I recall it was packed with plenty of fire power!

Actually, it was reversible, left or right side, large enough for a giant printer and plenty of desk supplies! It even hid pre-drilled holes for cabling on the desk as well as the sidearm.

Apple was always into branding stuff back in those days. Any way to make some $$. The desk became known as the MacTable

and went through many design phases

GoogleImage "MacTable desk" for some interesting pics.

Plain Google has a top hit on eBay for one like yours.

Thanks for there additional info, CCC, but I do not see any desk on the Google Images page that looks like mine! The eBay site doesn't show me any pictures, just little blue boxes with a "?" inside each one...very strange.

One final note: My desk does not have any indication of its origin. That is, there is no branding of any sort, no logos, no markings which would tell me it is an 'Apple' desk but I do remember we bought it from Apple.

Thanks again!

I bought it directly from Apple. It was shipped from Cupertino, delivered on a truck because it was so heavy, and had to be assembled in my office. I am actually surprised that I never lost any pieces along the way, having moved several times in the last 33 years!

Sounds like a good piece of furniture. The MacTable that CC mentioned was made by ScanCo, a Swedish company who oddly had their US HQ in Redmond, Washington. We had one in the crime lab. Never saw the desk, glad you posted a picture of it.

Radio Shack was still peddling their TRS-80 so I am happy to say I dodged that bullet!

For grins, have a look at the attached photo -- apparently it was an Apple advert for the Apple II. Amazing how far we have travelled! Too bad it doesn't sit atop the desk that I bought!

There were lots of AAR and AASP's back then and some of them are still around. Hardin computers in Arlington has been around since 1980, there were others in the area (now gone) that were before them.

I was around in 1981 and prior to that working with computers.

Hey, don't knock the Trash 80, did some serious work on that. Also RS gave us other equipment including a Tandy 2000 that was THIS close to being an IBM clone...but not quite. Had to do quite a bit of rewriting code to make it work with some vertical software we purchased.
