Keyboard on iPad now black, not white, and can't remove from screen

I have an iPad 2; WiFi only; 32 GB; Version 7.1.2. Went to use and the keyboard was on the screen. I can only describe it as a negative of the normal keyboard. Background is black and letters, borders, etc are white. Tried to sweep away and instead got a split keyboard in center of screen blocking part of the view. No way to send it down out of the way. Went to settings>general> keyboard. But the split keyboard blocks the screen and couldn't change at first. Did see split keyboard was turned on. Rotated the screen so the split keyboard did not cover that area of the screen and able to turn split keyboard off. Now have full keyboard on bottom of screen. No way to sent it away. Held down side button to cause a hard restart. When the iPad restarted the negative keyboard was still present on the screen. It covers the bottom icons (safari, mail, etc) so I can't open these. Any ideas on how to fix this?
