I'm having a ton of ads on my new macbook and I don't know how to get rid of them?

A program called MacVx keeps showing ads all over any page I go to and sometimes when I click normal links an ad will form in a new tab. I don't know what website would have caused it and I have cleared my history and deleted some of my newer downloads.

I only now started getting this problem. It didn't happen until this morning, when I turned on my laptop, and Safari became really slow and unresponsive. I don't know how many times I had to force quit the bloody thing. And to my great frustration, there were ads out the wazoo by MacVx. I'm glad this topic was up, or I would've driven myself insane eventually. Problem is I don't remember installing a plugin with this particular name, or anything similar. But there it was, clear as day in Preferences. Keep an eye out for MacVeXe, which is the name that infernal plugin had in my case. Once I got rid of it, the ads disappeared, and things are running much more smoothly now. In Firefox, it's MacVx. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to add that I tried Firefox earlier, and had a similar problem. Got rid of that bloody thing, so if I use Firefox again, I hope I won't have to deal with this mess again. I don't know how many other names the infernal thing may have, but those were the ones that I caught, after reading this thread.

EDIT: I guess the auto censor bleeps even mild invectives. Eh, no matter.

I've done all of this and am still having this problem. Do you have any other suggestions?

Those instructions are badly outdated at this point. A lot has changed since July of last year. Try my Adware Removal Guide instead. It is kept up-to-date, which is not something that is possible for information in a post on these forums.

(Fair disclosure: I may receive compensation from links to my sites, TheSafeMac.com and AdwareMedic.com.)

Also look for MacFest.

I have just experienced similar symptoms, only the plug-ins and extensions I found were named MacFest. Removal has resolved my browser issues and I am no longer receiving "Ads by MacVx".

For a reference point of infection, I received this through a "free font download" opportunity that seemed incredibly legit. Once again learning the lesson there is no free lunch, pay your foundry. ;-)
