After upgrading to iTunes 7 (7.0.0.70), I can no longer listen to iTunes and play WoW, which worked perfectly with iTunes 6. It sounds like you have a CD in and press fast forward (or a scratched record), the song plays too fast and is skipping horribly. It won't play right until you pause the song and start it over after quitting WoW. I have 1.25gb of RAM and an Athlon 64 3200, so I know my system can handle it just fine. I can hear other sounds while iTunes is playing and they sound fine. I have not tried Skype or Ventrilo yet while playing music with iTunes 7, but from what I've read, other people have had the same problem.
I've had this same result in Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista RC1.
Same here. Just upgraded last night and same problem occurred. I also found that IE can cause it to happen as well. I upgraded DirectX and have the latest soundcard drivers. Looks like MS is rubbing off on Apple more and more. Fix one thing and break two. I want my 6.0 back!
Copy/paste:
- Open the World of Warcraft folder on your hard drive (Default Folder: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft).
- Open the *** folder.
- Open the Config.*** file using a text editor by right clikciking, like WordPad.
Add the following line to the list if it doesnt exist:
SET SoundOutputSystem "x"
Change the x in the line above to each of the following numbers in turn to see if it helps, please make sure to restart the game each time after changing this line.
1 = Windows Multimedia (the one you should first try)
2 = Direct Sound
3 = Aureal3D
4 = Open Sound System
-1 = Auto select (the default)
Make sure you Save the config.*** each time you test them out not Save As.
All that said, at last glance Blizzard tech support is now recommending reverting back to a version of iTunes before 7. :/
