GLITCHES WHEN RENDERING AFTER EFFECTS MOVIES

FORUM,

I have a dual 1gig MDD with 1.5 GIGs ram, last year had a major system meltdown and replaced my mobo and processor cards. Everything has been ok (minor freezes now and again) and I installed a Radeon 9800 pro mac edition ( a few months ago). Since about then, everytime I render a movie in after effects pro 6.5, I get random dropouts in some frames. Anybody having a problem with this type of thing?

Random dropouts could be due to not having enough RAM. anytime AE is performing a Render it uses all the Free RAM it can get ahold of. If your Mac does not have enough Free RAM you can encounter hics burps and dropped frames in all sorts of rendering whethere it is with a video app, a compositing app, or even burning DVD's.

One good bit of advice is to clean out your OSX system caches anytime you go do to a render. make sure nothing else is running in the foreground or background other than OSX and AE. even go as far as taking your Mac off any Network it may be connected too such as an internal LAN or the broadband LAN.

A good freeware utiltiy I use before I do renders for my 3D Animation projects, is called Yasu 2.0
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21674. It allows you to run various common CRON scripts as well as allow you to empty various system caches and frees up much needed RAM for your processes.

If you still have issues with your rendering then I highly advise get more RAM if you can.

you list your Mac as a Dual 1gig MDD. MDD models can take up to 2GB RAM using 4x 512MB PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM DIMM's. PC2700 RAM is not too pricey now and every little bit of RAM will make your apps run faster, especially when you have to Render in AE.
