It says I have over 5000 pictures on my iphone when I connect it to my mac taking up 11GB of space, but I only have just over 2000 in my camera roll? All my storage is now full up. Has anyone got any suggestions please?

It is saying I have more picture on my phone but I cannot locate them to delete them. Also it says I have 4.5GB of apps when all of them totalled up doesn't add up to this amount. So all in all I now have no storage left on my phone and cannot even back it up anymore as it is over capacity

Having the same issue. Lets summarize and get some attention to that:

1. Itunes shows the double amount of photos on the iphone (in my case 1100, while iphone has only 550). it also shows double space taken (3 gb, while photos take 1.5).

2. Recently deleted folder - emptied

3. Photostream - disabled

4. Iphone restored from backup (but this backup is already doubling the photo number).

5. In iphone settings -usage - photos take double amount of space (3 Gb).

6. No videos or other photo apps on iphone

Having the same issue and when I called, they wanted me to completely erase my phone and start all over. Loose all my messages, photos, music, videos, EVERYTHING, and I wasn't up for that solution. I used "Disk Aid" I was able to actually export all 1600 photos off in actual size so I know they are all there, but there's no way to access them from my phone or iTunes to actually delete them! I'll just deal with the space issue until Apple figures out a way to deal with this...

Solution!

Wife was having the same problem -- only 20 or so photos, but Manage Storage said she had 2.3GB worth of photos. We tried everything other than erasing the contents of the phone. We severed all iCloud connections involving photos, removed all the photos from iPhoto and backed them up to a different folder, and deleted all photos off the phone. Nothing Changed!!!!

Until my wife started browsing through Messages. She noticed there were a lot of photos and videos hanging out from me and her family, so she started deleting photos and videos from specific messages. Lo and behold that did the trick! Her photo count and video count went down and her amount of space available increased! She had to delete them one by one, BUT IT WORKED!

Only thing weird thing is that she didn't make it very far into the deleting process, and her Used Space dropped drastically from 2.3GB to the 300MB range.

So I don't know if this is a glitch, or if she just deleted more than she thought, but my wife is totally happy, and you all know what that means!

Hope this helps! We were so frustrated by this issue that we just had to write on here what worked for us in hopes that if would give you all a bit luck!

I was hopeful that this was finally the answer I was looking for but no such luck. I started deleting photos and videos from conversations in Messages and while the Messages usage went down, Photos & Camera did not.

Just to give the details of my situation:

iPhone 5s 16 GB

iOS 8.1.3

Camera Roll and Recently Deleted are empty

No other photos or albums exist within the Photos app

iCloud Photo Library, My Photo Stream, Upload Burst Photos, and iCloud Photo Sharing are all off

In Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage > Photos & Camera: Photo Library shows 231 MB

Thankfully this only taking up 231 MB instead of the multiple GBs that others are reporting but with space as precious as it is anymore, every bit helps (or hurts!)

Hi all,

I figured out a solution to this. Basically you have to delete the junk that's leftover from the deleted photos. You need to install iFunBox. I used version 2.6 After installing, right-click on the program and click "Run as Administrator". Once you open the program you should see your phone detected in the top right-hand corner. This will allow you to remove the leftover files on your system.

On the top-left tab click iFunbox Classic.

Click the + beside Raw File System.

Click the + beside PhotoData.

Click the + beside Metadata.

Click the + beside DCIM.

Look through the various 100APPLE,101APPLE,...etc folders and delete everything inside the folders. There should be a lot of file remnants in there taking up space. Once you delete them you can turn your phone off and back on again. This resolved the issue for me. Good luck!

Cheers
