mavericks cannot re-load/re-boot - please help!!!!
Hello, I am hoping the community can help.
I was running Mavericks (10.9.4) on my iMac and decided to try the public beta version of of a certain new OS that cannot be mentioned on this forum. I used it for a few days and decided that it would be best to wait for the official release. I followed the directions to get Mavericks back on my iMac (use disk utility to erase drive, re-install OS X from disk utilities, and then restore from a time machine back up).
The problems I am experiencing are the following:
1. After erasing the drive and attempting to re-install OS X (in disk utility - Command + "R"), it only gives me the option to re-install that certain unmentionable OS.
2. I cannot boot from online restore/back up (command, control "R"). It just boots into OS X Utilities.
3. When I restore from time machine back up (date prior to the certain unmentionable OS, and after erasing the drive) I am missing a lot of files/extensions. System Preferences are completely gone. Utilities folder has all the applications with the ghost-buster slash through them and are unable to open. Pretty much every single Apple application, extension, etc. is unusable. It also completely removed my Microsoft Office. All that shows up for those apps is "?" And I've tried it under numerous back-ups from various dates over the past 6 months.
I attempted to call Apple for support, who told me to try and get it to boot from the web, but as I explained under #2 above, it won't do it.
I re-installed certain unmentionable OS while I try and figure this out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
