epson inkjet on dlink dpr-1061

I cannot seem to get the configuration right to print using a D-Link print server (2xUSB and 1xparallel) with my Epson printer. I can use all the help going please.

OS X 10.9.4, 2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 duo, 4Gb 1067 MHz DDR

Software Update has been run until there is nothing left and latest Epson driver package downloaded.

When I go to add the printer it finds the D-Link ports and I select USB1. I select the correct driver for the printer (Epson Stylus Photo R2880) and then I get the communications error.

If I add the printer using LPD method it sets up but always fails with a "filter error"

I have tried adding the port 80 to the address for IPP printing, and almost every other possible combination of options.

The only time I got anything out of the printer was using the Generic Postscript driver and it printed the postscript script!

I do not have much hair left and the wall has a few dents in it where I have been banging my head against it!

On the same network I can print to the Epson from Windows (all versions from XP onwards) without a hitch.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
