numbers won't let 0 be the first number

I'm doing a spreadsheet and some of the numbers begin with 0. I didn't realize it but each time the number has a 0 as the first number, it would just disappear. I had to re-do the whole sheet just to make sure each number was correct. GRRrrrr. I need to be able to access these numbers and some of them do begin with 0.

Why is this happening?

I put a . in front of the 0 and so it keeps it there, but I have to remember to get rid of it after I paste.

Quite the pain...

You'd need to format the cell as text in order to store such numeric string. The simplest way to input number as text in a cell is to put ' (apostrophe) in front of number.
