Printing

My wife's ipad4 stopped printing to our Epson WF-3520 about the time she updated to iOS 7. Since then I bought a new ipad2 and updated it to iOS 7. It won't print using the print button. When I do that on either ipad it says it can't find an airprint printer. I can print on mine going through google cloud. My MacBook Pro prints wirelessly fine so I don't think it's a printer problem. Do you think they will start printing when we update to iOS 8?

Try going to the app store and looking for Epson Print Connect. It's a free app. My iPad 2 wasn't airprinting to my epson printer. I downloaded the app and now it shows up as an option for my iPad.

I played with the airprint settings in the app a bit, didn't really change anything, and now my iPad sees it.

It's a free app and might help...and if it doesn't you're just out some time.

My apologies

is the app I was talking about. Epson print connect is something of Epson's to allow cloud printing. I was going back and forth getting my iPad to work then my iPod and my brain substituted the wrong thing.

I installed the app. Opened it, scrolled down to setting up air print. It took my iPad and iPod a couple of minutes and a couple of 'rescan's' for it to see my printer. then I just saved the airprint settings (didn't change anything) and it prints.

You're not doing anything wrong. I had to fiddle and tweak to make mine work. I think I had to do that set up airprint on the epson app 3-4 times.

And the same thing won't work on my iPod which makes absolutely no sense.

Basically Apple and Epson are disagreeing and users get caught in the middle. it could be something epson did when they set up their e-print and other cloud services. I tried to do some googling last night and nothing really came up.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I've spent a couple of hours playing with mine.

Do you have your printer hooked up to a computer? What I ended up doing (and I'm on a PC, not a mac) was uninstalling all the printer software on the PC, rebooting my computer, rebooting my printer and router, then downloading and reinstalling the epson printer drivers. Mine had the option of installing the Epson connect and e-web print, which I have not installed.

What I'm wondering is if those two options (my printer model is XP410) interfere with air print...perhaps they put drivers or something on the printer that messes with the airprint communication. Since the epson connect promotes itself as a mobile printing solution, maybe it does something to the printer to interfere with airprint?

It has taken me a couple of hours to play with this, and I wish I had a quick 'press this button' fix but my printing seems to be working now. And my iPod even sees my printer now.

I Guess I can try one of those. I thought Apple was better than that, shouldn't have to pay for an app to print to an AirPrint printer. It really seems strange that both iPads are having the same problem. And the MacBook doesn't have this problem. that's one area pc's have it over Apple. They print to any wireless printers. i made sure the printer I bought had AirPrint so her ipad would print. And it printed until iOS 7. When I bought mine ($199 at Walmart) I upgraded to iOS 7 as soon as I turned mine on. Neither has printed since then.

My sister-in-law was here this week with her ipad 4. She still has ios 6 so I tried it. "No airprint printers found". So my Macbook see's the printer and ipad's don't. Does anyone know if they do it different in the Macbook than the ipad? If so that would explain it a little. A printer problem. And if that's the case those apps probably wouldn't work either. I'll see if I can get her's to connect to google cloud and print through it like mine does. Not ready to buy another printer.
