Canon IR1022A Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.4

Hi, I am recently bought a macbook air and am trying to connect my Canon IR1022A. I have installed the correct drivers for mac 10.9.4 from the canon support website, however keep getting this message.

Please advise.

The error log says something about Appletalk -- appletalk has not been supported on OS X for about 8 years. So I guess that's not the right driver.

I think the "UFR II" driver for 10.8 will work:

When you add the printer in Print & Scan prefs, choose the IP > HPJetdirect protocol.

If the driver still doesn't work, I think you can print using generic PCL/ PCL XL.

This error may be due to remnants of an older UFR2 driver. Note that the latest version Canon UFR2 10.4.0 driver, which is the correct driver for OS X 10.9.4, should remove the older driver but looking at the error it appears that the UFR2 module cupstomcdufr2 and this can be caused by version mismatch.

So I would suggest you remove the iR1022 from Printers & Scanners and then open Finder and navigate to /Library/Printers/Canon. Then trash the folders "CUPS_MF_Printer" and "CUPS_Printer". If there is also any folder with UFR then please trash this also. With these folders trashed, empty the trash and restart the Mac. After you log back in, run the UFR2 v10.4.0 installer and when completed, create the printer for the iR1022. And as Greg has mentioned, if the iR1022 is networked, then please use the HP Jetdirect protocol.

Not sure the answer, since I don't use laser PCLs that often, but I've included a whole host of tips, one of which may work here*:

Brother has very good laser printer support for all versions of Mac OS X. You may seriously want to sell the Canon and find a Brother instead, if using a laser is important.

Is it because the canon drivers do not support OS X Mavericks 10.9.4?

The UFR2 v10.4.0 driver does support 10.9.4. Here is a link to this latest driver from Canon Australia web site.

The printer is not networked, I connect it through a USB adapter.

The USB adaptor could also cause a problem. If this v10.4.0 driver has a problem when printing then try connecting the iR1022 directly to the Mac USB cable, not via the adaptor
