the Mac mini doesn't start. The gray screen, first with the apple logo and later on, while the wheel is turning an gray screen without anything. Is there a way to find out why the Mac mini doesn't start ? ( something like safe-modus?) Thancks

First, boot to your Recovery partition, Restart while holding down Command-R, and run the Disk Utility to repair your startup partition.
