Importing into Imovie 10.0.2 from a Sony Camera (HDR XR200)

I am having trouble importing from my sony HDR XR200 video camera to i-movie 10.0.2 - it recognises the camera and APPEARS to import the footage, but once the camera is disconnected the footage is all blank saying "missing clip".

When importing: Once I select the clips the I want to import and import them - the clips are there and viewable, but there is a red warning bar that indicates "footage is still connecting to the camera to import go to file>reimport from camera/archive" - however this option is no longer available on version 10.0.2 so I am not sure how to get the footage actually imported correctly. Your help would be really appreciated!
