when will carplay for sonata be available

The 2015 Sonata is equipped with Carplay but it's not active yet.

There will be a firmware update in the future that will make Carplay function.

Don't bother talking to the dealer about it.

They never know anything about the actual tech in the cars at all.

Right now only Ferrarri has shipped a car with an active carplay system.

Everyone else that's announced, including the after market systems, have all had to push back.

It's not clear if that's because of Apple or something else though.

I was told by a dealer in early August, that 2015 Sonata's on the lot now will not ever support Apple Car Play, ie no upgrades will be provided. Model's that will support Car Play begin production in 4Q2014, and will arrive at the dealers at a later date. YMMV depending on whom you talk to.

it is definitely not Apple's delay as my pioneer is working with carplay in my car. Definitely the issue with manufacturer since they don;t want to let go their own crappy technology...

As its already in the news, that since introduction of the Google's Android auto, Car manufacturers are in dilemma for what to built in to their cars. As Cars are long term investment where consumers is going to use the same car and system for long term. Now if assume they built Apple car play and later on consumer decide to use Android phone he will be in limbo. So As per my best bet they might be trying to look for the option where the software can be change at the later stage if needed.

My wife recently purchased a 2015 Sonata Sport. I had heard about CarPlay but for some reason the sales people at the dealership were either not saying and playing dumb or just did not know what I was talking about when I asked about it. So I decided to e-mail Hyundai Motor Corp directly. The following is what Hyundai Customer Support sent me in an e-mail on November 1st: "CarPlay will launch during the 2015 model year on Sonata vehicles with navigation systems. After CarPlay launches, previously-purchased 2015 Sonatas with navigation will be updatable. We will have an announcement on timing and the update process in the near future."

I've called several Hyundai dealers and they don't know when it's coming out. Android Auto, which was announced after Carplay, is available for download from myHyundai.com.

A little ridiculous in my opinion...

This is not true. I bought a 2015 Sonata a week ago, and it only recognizes my iPhone as an "iPod" and plays music. If you go to Settings > General > CarPlay on my iPhone, my car doesn't ever show up. According to the dealership they are still waiting to receive the update so they can apply it (for free) to my car later this year. The process for updating is supposed to be pretty easy since it just requires the dealership to update the SD card and update the OS in the vehicle. That said, I can't find any information about when it is coming.

I was told by my dealer that the Apple CarPlay will be coming out sometime in November. Android Play came out a couple months ago and was easy to install onto my 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport. I downloaded the file from the Bluelink page onto a jump drive, inserted it into the car's USB port - Setup --> System Info --> Update. I'm sure the Apple CarPlay install will be similar.
