How to text someone without adding them to your contacts
I have an iphone 5 and I would like to know if it is possible to text a number without first adding it to my contact list.

Open the Messages app and then type the 10 digit number in the To: section.

Thanks Chris, that worked. I had to do one other step though, when I click on my message app. I get a list of all of my contacts there is no To: section.
I noticed though that in the top right hand corner was a little box with what looks like a pencil on top of it.
I clicked on that to see what it was and it brings up the New Message window.
See I just needed a nudge in the right direction not bad for and 81 year old lol
Sorry, I thought you were aware of how to begin a new message. The screen you were seeing was not your contact list, rather your recently received text messages. Glad you got it all straightened out.
