Hyperlinks in Numbers Tables

How do I remove a hyperlink from a cell in a table when using Numbers? For example, if I enter an email address in a list, the program automatically enters it as a hyperlink. This is normally okay for me as a default, but what if, in a particular instance, I want to remove the hyperlink and have the data as ordinary text? I have tried to select it and then go to the Format\Remove Link, but I simply activate the link when I click to select the cell. Thanks in advance for a reply.

Hi Simply123,

Menu > Edit > Substitutions > Smart Links (turn them off to stop automatic conversion as you type).

I have tried to select it and then go to the Format\Remove Link, but I simply activate the link when I click to select the cell.

Make the column wider to give some room to the right of the link. Click to the right of the cell to select it without activating the link. Select the text in the cell before Format > Remove Link.

Hi Simple123...

The way I get into a cell with a hyperlink without activating the link is to click on the adjacent cell and arrow into the cell with the hyperlink.

I tried entering e-mail addresses and url's into cells and they did not become hyperlinks, so I can't help with that one. FYI, a leading ' will make

anything typed after it a text entry, i.e. 'www.newtownfollies.com or '1234%% would show as a text entry.

Thanks. This has helpful suggestions. I also learned the following just now. If Edit Menu>Substitutions>Smart Links is unchecked, and an email address is entered, a hyperlink will not be created automatically, but it can be created by going to Format on the menu and clicking Add Link or by clicking command K. And, if this process is used to create the link, then the format menu can be used to remove the link as well. That is, the Remove Link option will not be grayed out in this case.
