I just got my iPhone 5s factory unlocked directly by AT&T, but it is still showing the message: SIM not valid (on itunes and phone itself).
I called AT&T personally and they say their system shows my imei as already unlocked, so i wonder why i cant activate it.
i am following the steps here iPhone: About unlocking but i still receive the same error message.
Any idea?
I contacted ATT twice. They said that there's nothing they can do. I don't know who to talk to. The customer service is useles.
Ask to talk to a supervisor. If they state the device has been unlocked, then try the restore again, making sure that you are restoring the device as new, not from a backup. After the restore, try to activate with another SIM, see what happens.
I submitted another att unlock request through the website today and the phone is unlocked now. I put T-Mobile SIM card and it works.

see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify. Only the wireless provider
to which an iPhone is locked can unlock it.
