For the past year or so, I've "curated" a contact called "Spammers", adding 15 phone numbers and an email address for annoying bot dialers and text message spammers. The contact is Blocked. But for some reason, their calls are still coming through and ringing my phone. I've tried unblocking the contact and re-blocking it, to no avail. Any ideas?

I found something out about this subject today. I'd been adding spam numbers to an existing contact called "spam" that I had previously blocked. However some numbers kept getting through despite being listed in that contact. My spam contact has 22 numbers in it now and I didn't understand why some kept getting through. Then I discovered this: go to settings -> phone -> blocked callers and at the bottom of the list, click to add a new blocked caller. Select the existing spam contact again and when you go back to the list, it will have been repopulated with every number from the spam contact. Originally my list only showed 4 numbers. Now it shows all 22. The 18 numbers I've added since originally blocking the contact are now successfully being blocked too. It seems that ios offers the ability to block a contact but in reality all that does is scour the contact and add all the numbers in it to the block list. If you keep adding numbers afterwards, none of those will get blocked until you select that contact and add them to the blocking again. This cured a problem I've had for months now. If you use this technique (having a contact full of spam numbers) then this method should cure your problem.

I just noticed - I don't seem to be able to tell which number just called me. "Recent" just shows "blocked" called me.
But I just edited "blocked" and copied all of the numbers without a "1" prefix and added them as phone numbers with that prefix.
That is it, manual must of be turned off from an update, working now.

Down to 10 numbers now with IOS 10.x, half my blocked calls started appearing again and I wondered why.

Yep, I keep all the blocked numbers in case I block someone I don't mean too.

This solved it for me. It was repeated calls from the same caller within 3 min. There were 2
I clicked the little next to the number in order to block it. The page showed the number already blocked (asked if I wanted to unblock). So, HOW did it get through - it wasn't a "contact", it was the actual number that I had blocked recently.
I blame all malfunctions on iOS updates, but I'd really like to know the real cause of this blocking failure.
Well, since this thread, I'm running iOS 9.3.2 in an iPhone 6S, and this ONE number keeps popping up. Even after I've blocked it. I'll hit the "i" (info) icon, and when I scroll down to the "block this caller", it already says it's blocked. I did it the individual number without making or adding it into a contact. And still the call goes through. So I'll try "adding to a contact" tip and see if that works.
Most of the posts here doesn't even answer the specific question of the OP. Not sure if they even understand the original question based on their answers. lol Anyone still having this issue? Any fixes, other than the ones mentioned already?
I had the exact same issue. All the comments were busy telling you how to block a call, not replying to "how did a blocked number get thru".
My phone is an iPhone 6. It is up to date on upgrades.
Fortunately it hasn't happened often, but that's probably because the calls weren't made, not because they were prevented from getting through.
