Warning do not walk into a Starbucks your iPhone will get hijacked

Your phone will auto connect to their network and it will brick your safari until you clear your cookies and delete your history. Super f@&$€#%^ annoying. Is there a way to prevent Starbucks from hijacking my phone. Aside from never going there again which is probably what I'm going to do.

I go into Starbucks 5 days a week. Sometimes I use their WiFi. It has never 'hijacked" my phone. I can't recall the last time I cleared my cookies or deleted my history. I've also never "auto-connected" to the network even though I've used it before.

What you're describing is not normal behaviour. Starbucks uses a captive portal system. In order to log in, you need to launch Safari and accept the T&Cs. If you don't want to log in, you just close that window and go about your business. If it's not working that way for you, there's possibly something wrong with your phone. Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears? Have you tried restoring it?

Once I cleared the settings (delete cookies, clear history.)everything is working fine now. But until I did it safari was completely taken over.

I understand that. And that's not normal behavior. Perhaps you've deleted the problem and it won't happen again. Or, perhaps you'll need to do more troubleshooting.

Of course, if you never go back to Starbucks, you'll probably save yourself a great deal of money. 😉

Wi-fi networks can't hijack an iPhone. Stop posting paranoid ill-informed propaganda. The next time you have a technical issue and want to post it here, stick to the FACTS, of what you actually know to be true. Don't jump to conclusions.

You should have simply stated: When I went to a Starbucks, my iPhone connected to their wi-fi network, and my Safari browser would only open up their webpage. Why did this happen, and how can I prevent it in the future?
