I had the same problem. I RESOLVED it by checking my contacts. It looked as if I had some duplicate contacts, some of which had contact numbers and others that didn't. Looks like it may have been contacts created from apps like WhatsApp which don't copy the phone numbers across. By deleting the duplicate contact without numbers it worked.

Also having the same problem. For at least the last year I've been able to ask Siri to "call my wife." No problems.

WIthin the last week, Siri tells me she can't find a phone number for (wife's name) when I ask her to place the call.

When hen I ask her to "call (wife's name)" Siri says she doesn't have a phone number for (wife's name) and gives me a list of possible contacts I might be trying to call. That list includes the number I want.

This his happens with multiple contacts, but not all.

At first i thought it was for contacts with an extra name (Sr, Jr, middle name, etc) because it seemed to be limited to those contacts. I removed the extra names and that seemed to work for about a day. Now it's back to broken.

Hands-free dialing is about the only thing I find Siri useful for. Very disappointed that its not working.

So based on a couple of comments in this forum, I tried a few more things.

When I say "call my sister." It seems to work correctly.

I looked at my wife's contact info and it had a "Dr." in the prefix. I then deleted the "Dr." so it just had her first and last name. When I said call my wife, it would still look for "Dr. xxx" and then say it couldn't find that person in my contacts. I then looked at my contact, and sure enough my spouse field was populated with "Dr. xxx." I deleted the spouse field entirely and then asked to call my wife. Siri asked who my wife was and I said the contact name. Since there was no Dr. in her contact anymore, it seems to have just added her name.

Call my wife started working correctly at that point.

I went back and re-added. "Dr." to the prefix of my wife's contact just to see what would happen and it still worked. I then deleted my spouse info again and once again told siri who my wife was. This time, even though my wife's contact had a "Dr." in the prefix field, it added just her name and still seemed to work properly.

For now, everything seems to be working. But I do wonder if it had something to do with how apple or google was dealing with prefixes as well. I'll report back if it breaks again.

I had to edit my post after a face-palm moment. Siri said she didn't have a number for my contact and after tapping the number clearly shown on screen as she said this it tried to compose an email with the area code for To. So ya, I'm a dummy and put their phone number in one of the email fields. 😊

Maximoos80, have you checked to make sure the numbers aren't in the wrong fields?

Hi Michael, thanks for replying. No, none of them have any post or prefix characters in them. One had an ampersand (which) I removed to no effect. None of their contact cards have any of the aforementioned either.

Also, just to clarify, I can call my wife, for example, if I say her name. But if I instead say "call my wife," this no longer works.

Yeah,

It's funny, since I removed (and then re added) the prefix stuff my problems went away. But it still bugs me that it's not clear why.

In case it makes a difference, if you haven't already, try deleting the relationship with the ampersand both in your contact info as well as theirs. Then tell Siri that the contact is your relation again. (So that it re adds it through the iPhone.)

If that doesn't work, I'd be curious what happens if you make up a new dummy contact and tell Siri it is your wife. (If that doesn't work, try adding a dummy contact as a relationship you haven't used yet.)

dunno...

But its his proper name and not nickname and theres an 'other' button and i click on it then click "Ryan Chip" and it says the same thing
