My phone shutdown while 30%battery. I went to get Iphone 5 battery replace (for free program iphone 5 battery replacement) They check and my phone is eligible to get it free but the staff claim that my phone screen bent and won't replace battery.

They mention to replace the new phone but I have to pay 260$

Apple will not replace the battery in damaged devices. The issue is one of liability. If, when removing the battery, a damaged screen (in your case bent) cracks or breaks who is responsible? Apple does not want to take the responsibility and risk further damages. Those are the rules that Apple has set. Your best option is to replace the device at the $269 price. You will get refurbished device with a new battery, case and screen.

It sounds as though Apple is using any excuse possible to avoid having to make good on their warranty claim. I ran into the same type of issue - brought my iPhone5 into Apple last week to get the battery replaced and wake/sleep button fixed (both issues recently recalled by Apple). They gave me a loaner and shipped it off for the repairs then today I got a phone call from my local Apple store saying that since there's a dent/scratch in the upper right hand corner near the power button they couldn't fix either issue -that's right b/c of a scratch. The Genius bar rep looked over my phone before hand, my phone is fully functional except for the issues addressed in their warranty recalls - yet there's nothing they can do for me since they're afraid if they take the screen off it won't go back on. The "damage" has nothing to do with/nor caused the faulty equipment they used in manufacturing so I simply asked it be replaced by a refurbished device (b/c let's be real, the iPhone6 is being announced in less than a week, making the 5 nearly obsolete) and was told they couldn't do that. I looked to call customer service but even finding the number is nearly impossible.

Good Luck!

Quick update - I went to pick up my still defective iPhone5 and expressed my displeasure to the rep at the Genius Bar. He looked over my phone and agreed that it should have been taken care of when it was sent off. He worked with his manager to get me a functional phone free of charge. I couldn't be more thankful to have found a rep who still believed in the value of quality customer service!

Just had a lovely experience at my apple store #sarcasm....I do everything on my part to go through this supposed "Free Battery Replacement" make an appointment, back up my phone, serial # says it qualifies. After waiting for a half hour, The Genius Bar tech. deletes my phone (I backed it up like I was supposed to), about 5 minutes into the swapping out for a loaner phone process, the guy lays my phone down and says it has a very slight bent in it. I am trying to find this bend but trust me most people couldn't find it unless they had a level. now checks to see, with his manager if it is eligible for repair. His manager shakes his head no. So the tech comes back and says sorry, your phone is not eligible for repair, so yep he deleted everything even though he didn't have to. Manager just shook her head sorry. I was looking throughout the whole process and from beginning to end, from speaking with apple support to my Genius Bar ticket, NO WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT THIS "BEND" WOULD EFFECT THE RECALL, now I know Apple product addicts can find some link like that supports Apple cause if Apple came out with a Toilet you slaves would be the first to buy it, But don't you think before I spend 3 hours out of my day, sit down at the Genius Bar, delete my phone that someone should tell me this BEFORE HAND. I could take or understand if i had a crack, but don't call it a recall cause thats not what it is. I guarantee you, that I take it to my local iPhone repair shop they could fix it in 30 minutes. Thanks for treating your local customers like chumps Apple.

It does state, "Note: If your iPhone 5 has any damage such as a cracked screen which impairs the replacement of the battery, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the battery replacement. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair."
