How do I put two linear trend lines in a scatter plot with two different sets of values?

I have to set up a scatter plot for a chem lab. My scatter plot contains two different sets of data, one for pre-1982 pennies and one for post-1982 pennies. I was able to enter everything and create the scatter plot. Now I have to put linear trend lines in there but I need one for each set of data. When I want to put a linear trend line in there it creates only one for all data. Is there any way I can have two?User uploaded file

Delete the chart. Then Do the steps (which are very quick) again:

  1. Select column B by clicking the B up top.
  2. Hold down shift and click the D up top.
  3. Click the chart icon in the toolbar and choose the scatter chart.
  4. Click Edit Data References blue rectangle.
  5. Uncheck 'Share X Values' in the drop down lower left.

Add Chart Data ???? I don't know where that came from.

X axis 0 to 12 ????

Anyway, best to ignore what we don't understand and start again.

What versions are you running?

I have been struggling with this for four hours. I had already figured out that the problem was that x values were shared between the multiple series of data. Now I found out that unchecking "share x values" solves everything.

This would be completely logical EXCEPT THAT IN THE DUTCH VERSION OF NUMBERS "SHARE X VALUES" IS MISTRANSLATED AS "SHOW X VALUES".

Hi hanswesterbeek,

It sounds as if you would be doing a good deed to report that mistranslation to Apple via your menu: Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback.
