Upgraded to iTunes 11.4 and now it won't sync my iPhone 5s-sync button is greyed out.

I upgraded to iTunes 11.4 today, and now I'm not able to sync my iPhone 5s. The sync button is greyed out. I tried reinstalling, reauthorizing, signing in again in iTunes and my iPhone. I also restored my phone twice...not sure what else to do. I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on an iMac Intel Core Duo. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi all,

Glad to know I'm not the only person with this problem. I upgraded to the latest iTunes on my 2006 iMac (Intel) which has Snow Leopard 10.6.8. My iPhone 4 (original, 2010) will connect but won't sync or back up. It only shows 'other' as the content on the phone, doesn't differentiate between pictures, movies etc.

Really annoying, if I'd had any idea I wouldn't have upgraded. Any solutions yet? Is there a quick and easy way online to notify Apple?

Wow. Impressive work. Thank you. Your solution worked for me as well.

However, before manually removing the files you listed I tried running the 11.3.1 installer with the "-allow" switch thinking it will force install the older packages over the newer ones. I didn't get any error messages but I still couldn't sync my phone.

So I proceeded deleting the files you mentioned and ran the 11.3.1 installer. And this time, sync works!

Thanks again! 🙂

Hi again,

Turns out, your instructions were easier than I'd though. I used the command + shift + G in Finder to find all of those files, removed them. If anyone needs 11.3.1, you can download it from here:

I won't be upgrading my iTunes again anytime soon. Thanks for your help, most appreciated.

I noticed a bunch of you early on upthread posted that you have older machines.

I think I know why things broke for you guys:

The previous line is from when I still had iTunes 11.3.1 installed. The following line is from my first backup after installing iTunes 11.4.

Unless Apple's iTunes 11.4 installer is really smart and can cherry-pick which version of the binary inside the kext to install, it looks like Apple goofed and the installer only comes with a 64-bit version of the kext. Oops!

I upgraded to iTunes 11.4 a day or two ago, and now I'm not able to sync my iPhone 4. When I click on the sync button nothing happens. The horizontal bar (near the bottom of the window) has a wide stretch that says "Other". I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on a 2006 iMac Intel Core Duo with 2 GB memory. I haven't tried deleting all the files (from 11.4) mentioned in an earlier message. I'm hoping Apple will issue a fix soon so that I won't have to remove all the 11.4 files. Luckily I still have a copy of the 11.3.1 installer file.
