itunes 11.4 crashes when syncing apps to ipad / iphone

hey everyone, maybe the knowledge of the many may help, as I am rather at a loss right now!

after installing itunes 11.4, my trouble started! running 64 bit version on windows 8.1 - and latest iOS on both devices

all windows updates installed, all drivers for whatever is running on this machien are also up to date

connecting either ipad or iphone to computer, when itunes starts to sync, it gets to the point of "syncing apps to iPAD", it tries to add the first app - and crashes for good!

and yep, I went thru all the suggested thingies recommended on here:

iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717

windows pops up "itunes has stopped working" ... so I headed over to the Windows Event viewer, and for the moment, itunes crashes, I find these two entries in the log file - tried a search on here, google as well, to no avail:

Hi barbino

You're not the only one having this problem, I'm running the 32bit version of 11.4 on windows 7 and I'm having a very similar problem as you.

It crashes when I sync apps to my iPAD and iPod Touch, but it works ok when synced my iPhone 4S?

My Windows Event looks the sames as yours

I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, no joy. But I have got a sort of work around for the problem. I updated all my iPhone apps on the device before I connected it to iTunes. I tried it with my iPad and iPod Touch both had all their apps updated on the device before syncing to iTunes and no syncing of apps so no crash. It's not a fix, but at least iTunes doesn't crash now. Let hope version 12.0 fixes the problem.

Hope this helps.

Attention this issue does not require a reinstall of itunes - this works.....

UPDATE TO LATEST iTunes & iOS - but then after the update DO NOT ALLOW itunes to sync apps!!! (click the x - eject the device immediately before it has chance to start writing any apps to the phone. )

There will be many old apps on your computer that you haven't used in years.............. some are incompatible with ioS8.x

The way to sort this is by going to your itunes folder on your computer and COMPLETELY EMPTYING THE APPS FOLDER (don't worry, you can get them back from the store as you already paid for them) Don't plug the phone in yet.

This will rid your system of any apps that are old and incompatible with the new iOS.

DO NOT ALLOW YOUR ITUNES TO SYNC ANY APPS TO THE PHONE. Don't plug the phone in yet

Then (this takes time) - go to your iPhone and back it up to icloud by going into the settings>icloud>back up.

Then, update all of your apps ON THE PHONE by clicking 'update all apps' on the device. Don't plug the phone in yet

THen, if you want any new apps installing, do it ON THE PHONE, not through itunes. Don't plug the phone in yet

Once you are up to date and all your apps on the phone are exactly as you want them DO ANOTHER ICLOUD BACK UP USING THE DEVICE, NOT ITUNES - Don't plug the phone in yet

Once you have done this back up, you can plug your phone into iTunes and sync.

All the apps on the phone will (when prompted 'transfer apps/purchases from phone') re-populate the apps folder with the brand new app downloads from the phone. The rest of the sync music etc will also complete.

Job done.

Hi, I also have this problem. I have my library on a NAS, and when I wanted to restore my iphone 4 backup onto my new 6+ it would stop when it got to restoring the apps. I got around this by stopping it each time it tried to restore the apps, noting which app it started with ie 1 of 57 and deleting that app from my phone and library. Then eventually when it completed the restore I then went into the app store on my phone, into updates then into purchased and re-downloaded the apps I wanted, looking at my old iphone 4 for reference.

It now syncs fine, but I cannot actually transfer any app from iTunes onto my phone. So I need to make sure my iTunes library on my NAS is updated, and the phone apps are updated before I do a sync.

I don't want to delete my apps library on my NAS, as I have a couple of apps backed up on there I would like to actually transfer to my phone as they have information in them, that is obviously not there when I download the app from the store, I'm also not sure if deleting the app library actually will solve the problem and then allow me to transfer apps to my phone. I don't really want to muck around with folder paths etc as I'm not really sure what to do. I also don't want to use icloud to backup.

Does anyone expect Apple to fix this, or have any ideas to help me?

Thanks.

If Apple wanted to fix this problem, they would have done it three months ago. It's obvious that they don't really care about it. There has been enough information posted here, that if they actually read through it, they would know what to fix.

You're going to have to map the folder to a drive letter. Then you will need to change the media folder location to match this. That's found under Edit, Preferences, then Advanced (you can also hit Ctrl+,). After that you will need to drag and drop all of your apps back into iTunes on the apps view. I had some issues, so I removed all of my apps from the library before I dropped them back in. I'm not sure if you will need to do this or not. This also caused iTunes to try and sync all of the apps back to my phone that I had previously deleted from it. Depending on how many apps you have, this process could take a while, so be prepared for that.

Any information that you have in your apps will actually be stored in the iPhone backup files, (when you create a backup or sync) so you could delete the app from iTunes and download it again without affecting it. Just don't overwrite or delete the actual backup.

Hi Ben, thanks. Unfortunately I don't think I have the backup from my iphone 4 anymore, even if I did, I don't want to revert back to it, so I can live without the information lost from the two apps. If I map a drive like you say, will my Sonos system still pick up the music or did I need to change the details within that too? Also can you confirm once this is all done, that apps then happily transfer from your NAS to your iphone? I want to know that if I need to restore a backup onto a new iphone that all the apps will transfer across all ok. Thanks. I may have more questions about mapping a drive, as I have never done that!

SUCCESS!

I too have had this problem.

It appears the apps that won't work on IOS8 can get stuck.

Deleting them from the phone doesn't solve it, deleting from the sync page in itunes doesn't solve it.

This is what I did...

Open iTunes and go to the store. Find your way to the apps section and then to "my apps". Delete the duff apps from in there. I managed to sync OK after this. Only did this a few minutes ago so not sure how long the joy will last!

This problem is caused by apps in the iTunes library that aren't compatible with ios 8 those apps must be deleted from your iTunes app library before performing a sync. You can determine which app it is from the status bar on top of the window during the sync process at the time of the crash. If you want back up the app before you delete it you can copy it from you iTunes library folder which is typically located in
