Tmobile iphone 6 unlocked

I am in India. I want to order online at US apple store for delivery to a friend in the US who can bring it back to me in India. Is the Tmobile iphone 6 unlocked? There's a contract free option. Just not sure if that is unlocked as well. Will be using in India on local carriers.

I wanted to do the same, buy online ship it to a friend in the US so he can bring it to India, called Apple directly and asked them specific questions, below are their answers, I asked them to email these answers to me. I'm pretty convinced with the last answer.

Customer asks if there is an unlocked iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus:Apple has not released details on an unlocked, sim-free iPhone 6 for the US.

Customer asks if the T-Mobile iPhone is unlocked: T-Mobile phones are unlocked, and arrive with a T-Mobile SIM ready for activation.

Customer asks if they can purchase an unlocked T-Mobile iPhone and put in a SIM Card from another carrier: Confirm that compatible SIM cards from other carriers will work with the T-Mobile iPhone

Despite all of this rhetoric, as Gail said, the T-mobile full-price iPhone is a non-contract iPhone. It is not a sim-free nor an unlocked iPhone. The iPhone must be activated using a valid nano-sim from T-mobile. The T-mobile policy in the past has been that these full price iPhones must operate on their network for at least 40 days before T-mobile will unlock them.

There is been a lot of misinformation about this in the past. There is erroneous information even coming from some Apple personal.

Also note that if you purchase the iPhone from the US you will NOT have a warranty in India. The warranty is only valid in the country of sale. Apple will provide no service or support on the iPhone in India. It will have to be returned to someone in the US who can then give it to Apple for support.

I've been searching the web since the announcement and have found some promising information on this topic. Here's what I've found out so far:

Over at reddit, some people have posted their chats with Apple specialists who are telling folks that the T-mobile phone is unlocked. One customer was told that he needs a compatible sim card to activate the phone and told him to avoid using the TM sim card that comes with the phone.

Last year, unlocking your phone was technically illegal and it wasn't until August 2014 that unlocking a cellphone became legal (again.) When you buy a T-Mobile phone, at full price- the phone belongs to you. T-Mobile cannot hold your phone hostage thanks to Bill 517, which allows you to change carriers as you see fit. Here's a selection from section 2C of the bill permitting unlocking of the device:

[unlocking] may be initiated by the owner of any such handset or other device, by another person at the direction of the owner, or by a provider of a commercial mobile radio service or a commercial mobile data service at the direction of such owner or other person, solely in order to enable such owner or a family member of such owner to connect to a wireless telecommunications network

Some have reported on MacRumors forums that you'll receive an unlocked phone directly from Apple, you'll receive an unlocked phone. It seems, that no matter what restrictions are placed on your phone, you have rights. Usually T-Mobile and AT&T sim card are interchangeable, but I don't know about the rest. And should the phone come locked, who knows what hoops you have to jump through to get it unlocked (third party, ATT/T-Mobile customer service, etc.

Thoughts?

Again, the phone is not totally "yours" as you are purchasing a subsidized device, which does not cost as much as an actual "unlocked" device. You can find anything you wish on the internet that will support what you want to believe.

Bottom line, in order to use the T-Mobile device, it has to be Activated by T-Mobile. As I pasted in my post above, this is clearly and unambiguously stated by Apple on the iPhone 6 information page. T-Mobile is not going to activate it just to be nice. If you would take the time to actually go to the T-Mobile site, and go through the Pre-order process, you will see that to get to the point where the device is actually activated, you have to select a Service Plan. This means that you will have to pay for at least one month of service from T-Mobile. It doesn't mean you can't change the SIM the very next day to another compatible carrier. What it does mean is that you will have paid for one month of service to T-Mobile, whether you use it or not.

When the actual, real, unlocked devices are released by Apple, they will be more expensive than the T-Mobile contract-free devices. And, again, as you will see from my post above, those devices will actually be ready to have any compatible SIM of your choice inserted into them and used to Activate them.

In the end, it doesn't matter what reddit says, or Gizmodo says, or CNET says, it is what Apple says that counts. And what they say on their iPhone information page, in writing, is what I pasted in my post above.

What $800 price would that be? What model, what size memory? I'm not seeing a device at that price....

And I said nothing about T-Mobile claiming anything. I stated that the information I pasted in my earlier post was directly from the Apple iPhone 6 information site, and that I went to the T-Mobile site and went through the Pre-order steps, and I reported what the steps were.

And Verizon phones come with a 2-year contract....

Sean, a T-Force Specialist (aka tmo_sean_I) reports that the $849 price tag for an iPhone 6 plus listed on their website (via pre-order tab) is the unsubsidized cost for the phone. He also states that the only way to buy the phone unlocked is to buy it directly from Apple. He says that phones purchased through the T-Mobile store or through the actual T-Mobile website will be locked to their network. Also, the $849/iPhone 6 unsubsidized price is for people who choose a month-to-month plan- any other T-Mobile plan will leave you with a locked phone.

OK, my bad. The T-Mobile phone is not subsidized. However, I believe the topic was concerning unlocked devices, and Adam Clark Estes from Gizmodo is incorrect when he states that the T-Mobile or the Verizon phones are unlocked. Whether you purchase the T-Mobile device from T-Mobile, through the T-Mobile Store, or via Apple, it is not unlocked. Again, here is what the Apple site says about the T-Mobile devices:

If you have selected an iPhone for T-Mobile, it will come with the appropriate nano-SIM, but you will need to contact T-Mobile or visit an Apple Retail Store to activate your iPhone.

This is directly from the Apple iPhone 6 informational site. The unlocked version of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices will not be released until a later date.

Hi Gail,

I just spoke with T mobile customer care they are saying if your paying in FULL Amount than there is no reason for TMobile to have it locked.

If you buy the contract ones than yes it would be locked.

Than i called apple 1800 no and they said its an unlocked phone?

so what i fail to understand is where you got your info from? or if you could tell me to personally call them n verify?
